Tracking to tape verses mixdown
That's kind of what I thought. But obviously mixing down to tape must add some of the "warmth" / "tape" flavor right? It seems slit of top engineers still work that way. (tracking in the box and mixing to tape.) I'm also aware of slot of top guys who have done everything in the box and they're so go...

Any thoughts on tracking to tape verses mixdown to tape?
Presuming in all cases you're using good mics / pre-amps / plug-ins / converters and a good deck.. and your goal is to get an overall nice warm analog sound... What do you think are the subtle or not so subtle differences between tracking to tape then transferring to digital for an "in-the-box" mixd...

TRACKING TO TAPE VERSUS MIXDOWN TO TAPE??
In y'alls experience what type of differences are there between: 1) tracking to tape then transferring to digital (presuming you're using good converters etc...) for an in-the-box mixdown.. (again presuming you have good plug-ins etc..) and / or 2) going from all digital (but using good warm pre's a...

Latency with Reel to Reel into PTools
Thanks, MoreSpaceEcho and RM. @RM - I was just trying to save the step of having to use a mixer while trying to record simultaneously to pro tools. (instead of dumping after). So if the deck is on "input" you can just monitor from the deck? (at the same time you go into pro tools? Okay here was my o...

Will there be increased NOTICEABLE latency if...
Will there be increased NOTICEABLE latency if I run my preamps into a reel to reel deck (lets just say 8 tracks), then run the output from the reel deck into protools (Digi 002 / Windows) in order to monitor it? Will the extra step of going through the reel to reel tape deck (instead of going direct...

DO EVEN THE BEST SNAKES / PATCH BAYS DEGRADE SIGNAL?
Hi, I just bought a 15' mogami gold snake to help organize (and extend) my cable situation. Instead of running 8 separate cables from my preamps (control room) to my live room, (most of the mogami), I'm going to use this so I have more play with the cables in the live room and it will look a whole l...

Posted: Wed Feb 03, 2010 10:41 pm Post subject: Any good time compress/expander for sound forge or p/tools? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, I've got a song on pro tools (LE 7.3 windows) that I need to speed up without changing pitch. Right now it'...
