Thanks for the www.soundproofingcompany.com tip. if only I was in the States! Roscoe, that's a great suggestion. I've been sitting my speakers on an Anton Corbjin photograph book and the beatles book, each with packing foam on them. Might try something like sorbothane pads instead. Love your playing...

Reducing noise through timber floor into attached house

I'm interested in your thoughts on this problem. My new studio is going into the front room of a semi-detached house. (One side of the room goes to an unattached outside wall. The other wall is shared with our corridor and then the next wall (on the other side of the corridor) is the common wall wit...

+ 1 on the Peter Katis produced stuff. Also, Antony (and the Johnson's) have some beautifully stark stuff recorded. Also anything recorded by Ethan Johns will suit you for the sound of complete takes to tape. I also think Adam Freeland does amazing work as a mixer and producer. There's a band called...

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately I haven't made myself clear enough.

I was asking the question from the perspective of an artist approaching a production team, or a mix engineer (not an engineer looking for management.)

Any insights on the artist>>production interaction?

Approaching Management, Producers and Mixers: dos and don'ts

I guess this post is directed at the more established producers/mixers - I'm wondering how you ideally prefer to be approached for work? Also, what kind of approaches and things immediately set off red "steer clear" flags for you? What's a polite, professional first contact like? How do negotiations...

Considering the cost of the gear used and the skill involved - I'm thinking those prices are fair enough.

What do the top level "name" mixers charge per son

I was just in the newsagent reading a Sound On Sound magazine. The only part of this magazine I check is a really interesting section where they go through a whole mix track by track called 'secrets of the mix engineers'. The latest version was Florence and the Machine's (great album) "you've got th...

Laura Marling's latest Ethan Johns Produced album

Laura Marling's latest Ethan Johns produced album is stunningly recorded. Does anyone have any information on the processes, or the gear used? There's plenty of lovely tape hiss on there that'll wrap your ears in comfort.
would appreciate it.
thanks

I love Byrne's blog. He always writes something completely original. This is in stark contrast to most stuff posted on the internet (copy///paste).

I also love the simplicity of his studio and the fact that it's almost as messy as mine.

Thanks for posting

Which drum machine does John Lennon use on the Dakota Demos?

I love the sound of the drum machine on Lennon's demo tapes from the Dakota Building. Does anyone know which drum machine he was using?
