Meat Puppets in 1988 at Humboldt State University. It was the Up On the Sun tour (I think,) I was a senior at a small town high school, I had discovered SST records about 6 months prior, and I just begining to get enlightened to the world of interesting, creative underground rock. Being in small tow...

Re: anyone have experience with PARIS DAW?
I wrote the piece in Tape Op a couple issues back. It's dead in the fact that EMU doesn't make it anymore. There is a group of users trying to keep it alive and got some access to some source code and have developed some new host based plug ins and such. As far as stability, mine is rock solid. I've...

Re: Gear Security On Tour
When I toured we always had very plain looking vans, no stickers or anything indicating we might be a band. Be built a loft that went from the middle seat to the back. All the gear went under the loft, all personal stuff could then go on top (and you could sleep on top too.) The loft was impossible ...

Job Opening at Biamp in Portland, OR
Although not a studio job, it is an audio job and a fun place to work. There is an opening for a Tech Support Position at Biamp in Portland, OR. Re: Green Day confusion
I never even read the off topic threads, but for some reason I decided to this morning. I can't say I've followed Green Day's career over the last several years, but my band used to play a lot with them circa 1990-1992 or so. They definitely came from the easy bay punk scene, playing Gilman, playing...

Re: School recommendations in San Francisco area
I really don't know why anyone in this day would choose to go to recording school. We're in a really unique time now where you can actually put together a decent little home studio for relatively little money. You also have a million resources online and other places where you can trade information,...

Re: is it possible to lose your skill in an instrument?
This is a great subject. I've played bass for the better part of 15 years or so. When I was in my late teens through late twenties I practiced on my own a lot, practied with my band a lot, played tons of shows, toured. I was hot shit player. Then something happened. For one I started listening to so...

Re: albini rates!! what the---???
The simple fact that someone whines about Albine raising his rates $100/day is the exact reason most people can't make a living in this industry. The guy is a professional, one of the best in the field, and you complain about him trying to make a decent living?? Do you complain when you get a raise ...

Re: QOTSA "Songs for the deaf" Sessions
Is that really true the Grohl over dubbed the cymbals???!!! That seems really strange to me. Playing the entire drum kit, cymbals included, is so much about flow and feel. It seems that intentially not hitting the cymbals in parts of the song that require it and then going back and hitting those cym...

Re: Neptune Mixer made in Portland?
Hey Shakethebeach, When did you work at Biamp?? I work there now!!! Been here for almost 3 years now. The company only does stuff for the sound install market now and we're doing really cool networkable DSP systems. Quite a bit different from the post Sunn rock n roll days I imagine. Anyway, give me...

Alex,
That's weird your V676's seem to overload easily. I can usually run a really hot signal into mine without any issues. Do you notice it pretty consistent after a certain gain setting?
