Cables: Mogami/Neutrix?
I am in the process of changing the audio cable mess in my studio. I've got a pro-forma and most of the budget goes to cable and connectors, which are Mogami and Neutrix. For the guys in the shop that's the way to go. Because of the neutrix/mogami this would be a very serious investment for me, as I...

Thanks! That's good news, I'm saving some money. And It makes more sense to have only one kind of connection. If you don't mind , I've got another question about this. My mixer , a Studer 963, has a TT patchbay (semi- normalized) with the sends and returns for all the channels. Those sends and retur...

Bantam Patchbay for Mic signal
Hi, i'm designing my patchbay to improve the workflow in my studio. Yes, I'm not getting new outboard this Christmas, just cables... I've been advised against using bantam patchbays for the mic signal (mics outs and pres ins ). It seems like XLR patch bays are the safest option. Considering I...

Having one or two recording tracks (often two mono decks ) doesn't imply recording everything with one or two mics. That's was my first idea of how 50's records were done but I've found that wasn't necessarily true. I.e. Apparently Sam Phillips mixer had 6 mic inputs and he used at least 5 mics at o...

The Akai DPS-24, was in my opinion the Rolls of the digital multi tracks: 24 tracks of simultaneous recording, up to 96khz, Neutrix connectors, etc. It was quite expensive. It is long discontinued so you should be able to find a second hand one for a decent price. What I really liked the most was th...

Re: 8 channel AD/DA for Apollo
I don't know if there are a better option, but recently I borrowed an Apollo andtemplejazz82 wrote: Am I missing options to simply get 8 more channels of external pres into the Apollo? I know I am, so, school me!
i used it as the main device with my Rosetta 800 connected via ADAt.
It worked perfectly with PT 10.

Hi, I'm slowly but firmly building up my mic locker (see below), and it's time to get a stereo pair.Probably SDCs as I haven't got any? Tubes ones, not sure about this. I like to know your recommendations. Hopefully it will not the be necessarily the most expensive piece of gear. Budget can be $1500...

Fireware AD/DA
Hi, I'm looking for some advice about which AD/DA converter should I get to complement a xfireware Rosetta-800/MB pro/PT 10 rig. I run a small studio. 8 tracks 1" Studer A80 for tracking, Studer 810 1/4 " for mixing. Rosetta 800 is used for making a digital copy of the master. However, more and more...

Studer A80 vs Otari ATR-90
Hi, I'm moving from 8 to 16 tracks. I've been offered for more or less the same money a Studer A80 (probably Mark III or IV) and a Otari ATR-90 Mark II. I own an 8 tracks A80. I know the machine pretty well. You need to learn how to punch-in with it, but apart from that has the sound that made move ...

Very interesting thread, although maybe it covers a too long period. I don't think early Sun and Chess for example are so comparable. There are different sounds in the old electric blues, e.g. Doctor Ross echo drenched boogie sounds very different to Muddy Waters 60s Chess stuff I don't think record...

Ethan, Thanks again. I've just made 4 basstraps (6.5 '' width) for the corners. One more question if you don't mind. Where should I put the rest (6 panels)? My idea is: -2 behind the console, just behind the monitors. -4 in one of the parallel walls (the one the amps are facing). The other parallel ...

Saw Sonic Boom (Spectrum) live some months ago. He sounded great and he didn't bring any of his obscure vintage synths:

Just a cheap casio, a Zoom sampletrack? and some guitar pedals.
