I don't have either deck, but the one that came in between the 38, and am pretty happy with it. I also have a MSR-16 whcih is the same "series" as the TSR-8. I haven't had occasion to really put it through it's paces, but it's a nice machine. Note that ATR tape is pretty thick, (2mil) and your 80-8 ...

Here are some in progress. It doesn't show the trimmer installed or R6 removed. http://www.flickr.com/photos/87779587@N08/sets/72157631631312632/with/8028007004/ I don't have another 2001 at the moment to compare to, but I did compare it to a stock MXL 2006. I think the transformer is a bit too high...

MXL 2001 "U87 Front end mod"

I've been on a modding frenzy lately. This was relatively simple, and I modded it because it was there. The FET circuitry before the pnp section is pretty similar to the U87 amplifier section (no pattern, low cut, or pad), but has the feedback circuitry. Anyway, did one of these, thought I'd share. ...

Came across this thread googline microlimter mods.... Anyway, wondering if any power supply upgrades were in order as well. 9vac in doesn't seem to give it much headroom, or am I off base here? Seems like 12vac or even 15vac to get higher rails? (I'm assuming a lot here haven't even opened one yet) ...

Re: did you ever get this done?

I have an 80-8 with a dbx unit... the cable between the two is is intact. If I can figure out what you need I would be happy to try and figure it out. Thanks so much. I forgot to follow up on this thread. I had also posted on a couple others. I finally found a gentlemen who was kind enough to go to...

Finished my first Royer mod with teh BigUgly boards. At first I connected the red capsule lead directly to the board, and the end result was a pretty noisy mic. So I used one of the teflon insulators from the donor 2001, also cleaned some of the flux off and that made a huge difference. I have to me...

I made a run of the BigUgly version of the Royer mod. It is for dual sided capsules, but can be used with single sided, without cutting any traces. I have extra boards, if anyone is interested PM me. I'm working one right now. The board is cut to fit the MXL 2001 (and presumably other similar mics.)...
