Yeah definitely, I think when we hear good music or music we can identify with and get into, we get inspired to capture it the best we can, and to do some pretty creative stuff mixing as well.

Re: Longest session you've ever done?

So, I sit here at 7:30 am local time having just finished a 19 1/2 hour session (the last of 10 days and we had to finish the album), a personal record. What's the longest continuous session you've ever been involved in? I thought this could throw up some interesting stories. Lightweight. Once I ha...

Miked a kick with a D112, mistake number one (joke). Mistake number two was that the stand started to touch in the first song, and was entirely touching at the end of the second song, had to manually drum replace with tab to transient and pasting samples. It sucked hardcore because he would play som...

Looks like a fun place, from what I can tell it's a studio somewhere in Texas.

I was checking a project that had a ton of stereo information in mono, and it seemed like some stuff got a little quieter when I did and it wasn't as clear. But being fairly new at this, I don't know if I can get away with that seeing as how I had 10 tracks of drums, stereo violin , two distorted gu...

i believe that the nevermind reference that calls on the the beatles reference is actually referring to artificial double tracking, where they would double the original vocal by dumping it to a different tape machine and back again (beatles aficionados please correct me if i'm wrong) there's some g...

We did this with a PZM mic but ended capturing a crystal clear hihat as if it was a nice condenser above the hat itself.

None of the common harshness of the rock and roll hihat, it was pretty tame and bitchin'

Half the engineers I've met have had soul patches, and the other half have had a full beard. Then most of the ones with facial hair also had glasses. Long hair not quite as common, but we used to joke around that a ponytail, a beard, glasses and some nerdy graphic t-shirt was the uniform of the engi...

well I thought about it some while I was on my way to work, what's wrong with the reverberant guitar? I don't know the track or what it sounds like, and it is your project, so it's up to you if you want to try this some more, But if the guitar player originally wanted the reverb, and doesn't really ...

re-tracking is definitely the best course of action, but I had a problem a little similar to this on a project I did in school. I wanted to mic them real close and upfront but my partner was like "no" and it was his band, so at mixdown I had a slightly roomy guitar sound in a heavy metal song, where...

I've seen some pretty cool stuff done with PT8's elastic audio, but only having used 7.3 I have no idea how good it is first hand.

Anything's worth checking out though.

Oddly, my experience with this is totally polarized: Our studio has had a dozen or more STELLAR interns in the short time I've been there. One guy (Ben, who will be forever nicknamed "The Bentern") was so awesomekillerfantastic that he was given his own key to the studio and all the lock codes afte...
