Whatever. I don't read Tape Op for the reviews. word. neither do I. Perhaps I really didn't need to start this thread. I was just sort of surprised I guess, because Tape Op is usually such an authoritative source, anyhow. I'm certainly not going to stop reading it, LOL. If the Arturia is that big o...

I got bitten by the "all positive gear reviews" po

Man ... I'm struggling with how to say this without sounding like a giant douchebag ... because I love Tape Op and it's free and bitching about that is definite douchenozzle territory ... but I don't think there's any other way, and I do think this needs to be said. Look ... it's the Gear Reviews. I...

Oh my, yes! Console 3 is also very good, but has a slightly different behavior when you drive it hot. I use one or the other of them on just about every drum bus.

Also use the heck out of Density and BigAmp. All the airwindows stuff is pretty awesome,

the microkorg I have is the original version (no USB, but has midi-out). I got one of these cheapie USB->MIDI adapters for it, and it functions brilliantly as a synth and as a midi controller. http://www.amazon.com/E-Mu-Xmidi-1X1-MIDI-Interface/dp/B000JLU26W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1369866484&sr=8-2 ...

Kinda depends on what you wanna do. If you wanna play key parts that correspond to physical instruments (i.e. piano, clav, organ, etc), then you'll want one that has real-sized keys and you'll want at least 49 of them. If you want some good synth sounds and a pretty solid midi controller, you pretty...

I too have this problem of a noisy home made sub kick. I never figured out how to fix it properly, but I did this instead and believe it or not, it actually sounds pretty good. I downloaded the free guitar rig version from the Native Instruments site, and I put the noise reduction module on it, hit ...

But really they are pretty wild, I lost mine in a move because they are kinda small. They are about the size of two boss pedals. Here is a video of one. There is also a bunch of videos of the web of people circuit bending them. http://vimeo.com/14104294 Haha yeah, I like it on drums too. Makes a na...

What about the Radio Shack reverb/slapback delay thing that has the little faders on it. That thing sounds pretty crazy. I used to have one. I should get another. Hahaha ... what you did there, I see it! I have one to ... and it's uhh ... completely not dogsite in any way at all. It's the baddest a...

speaker as kick drum mic

So I was watching Sound City last night, and I noticed that all the Foo sessions had a speaker mounted in front of the kick drum, which presumably they were using as a kick drum mic. I did this in my high school band with some awful sparkomatic car speakers (because we didn't have money for a kick d...

wanna second what Greg said about the shaker. It's money for making you feel where the down beat is going to be, because chances are you're going to be playing on top of the click. My go-to for years has been 808 hi-hat 8'ths, then record a shaker loop grooving over that. Good stuff. The 808's hh is...

Re: DAW minus the screen. Anyone working this way?

In one life, I do a lot of writing/composing/programming for corporate clients. By necessity this part of my work has become more and more based in Logic. I know this is a complete thread derail, and probably uncool of me to ask this but as a complete outsider to the music "business" (beyond crappy...

So if you really have two figure 8 ribbons in the M/S configuration ... how is that working at all? I presume you have really three inputs (one from each ribbon mic and one from the mid mic?) Oh shit. I thought about it some more and now I think I get it. You just pointed the stereo ribbon at the d...

No, I've got a mid mic. The whole setup is a stereo ribbon. I just wanted to say, that before I read this thread, I had literally never heard of a stereo ribbon mic. Sounds very interesting. Google doesn't find a whole lot about them, but I did find this: http://www.cascademicrophones.com/cascade_X...
