The idea of a really compact, portable board or board within a case is very tempting to have, because no one wants to lug stuff around. At home, personally, it's like my Zen; something I like to perfect, stare at, etc... if I have to go jam with anyone, it's like a fat chance I'll take any of that s...

I think I read you can swap out the 4558s for something else but I don't remember which one at the moment.

I actually can't even get the top panel off the unit to access the solder side of the PCBs... stupid covers are held in grooves and have super-sticky cushion tape holding them down...

DBX 164 / 163 recapping and troubleshooting

I own a DBX 164 and just purchased a vintage 163 as well. Since the 164 is a stereo compressor but can be Y-cabled to act as a mono device, that's how it's primarily used, but I wanted the option as a stereo device at mixdown someday. The 164 is a bit noisy/hissy, and the second channel LEDs stop re...

Well, at least I got my refund, minus the 28.00 worth of shipping I had to eat on two mics. And I understand buying anything used on the internet, from eBay, from CL, from anywhere - there is a huge caveat involved. Fortunately I have been on the lucky side of the fence for most of it, and have yet ...

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with him. I had zero problems in my transaction with him. Our correspondence with brief, but helpful and friendly. That's just it- it started off that way, and like I mentioned in my email back to him, I was totally cool and relaxed about sending it back and ...

BEWARE of Mic-Hawk.com

I posted this over at Homerecording.com also, but I needed to make sure I spread the word and publicize my experience with this seller: I've been jonesing for a Philips LBB-9020 model dynamic for a while, and finally decided to get one to try it out. Not really sure why, I guess they look cool. Anyw...

I've solved that problem by running the tape back and forth (ff and rew) with the tape lifter engaged, so that it helped form the tape back to the head... not the ideal solution but it worked...

I'm really interested in trying something, even though I know by the time I'm done I'll have spent in mistake money what I probably could have picked up a decent Echoplex for, but... I think it's a cool idea. The EP-3, for example, is not a very complex unit. I wonder how hard it would really be to ...

Convert a reel to reel into a tape echo?

Anyone ever try re-housing a reel to reel into some sort of echoplex clone? I would love to try this, but it would take some planning and a lot of effort.... I'm curious to hear of anyone else tried or wants to try something similar. [/i]

I was hoping someone would mention the pinch roller solenoid adjustment. Honestly, the easiest way to see if this adjustment will even work before you start turning the adjustment nut, is take the unit out of the enclosure, and put some pressure on the solenoid arm inward to force more pressure on t...

Ace Tone Rhythm Ace FR-3 troubleshooting

I just got a pair of FR-3s from a local CL sale. Both work, but one is in slightly better condition physically and has a busted selector switch post (which means replace the entire selector switch/pot). The other one is all intact but has a problem with the on/off switch. If you toggle and play with...

Found it!

Philips LBB-9020

And yes, it was sold on the classifieds here - and the video link was provided (although a different one). Wow. That only took me 2 full days of searching....
