roommate needed for Fairmont Hotel TapeOp conference

Ok, I got the news that the person staying with me, from our group of friends that's attending this year, won't be able to make it. If you would like to share a room ($50 nite) I will be arriving May 27 and leaving May 31 so that's 4 nights available. You get your own bed in a shared room and the re...

Re: seeking tips for Otari 8 track operation

I want to mention that I found a great source for cables, etc that Otari is not stocking any more. His name is: Jamie Sutton and his phone is 818/842-6500. I asked Otari (their phones are messed up now in the new offices - modern technology) to get me a cable for the CB-116 locater and they said Jap...

Re: Putting SNARE up the middle...a consideration

stereo snare, that's funny. When you put up your mics there's like a repeat of what the entire kit is doing unless you plan ahead. So many nice records were really made using one mic. Really. When you add more it's supposed to help. Learn from someone who's been there otherwise you're guessing. This...

Re: Putting SNARE up the middle...a consideration

my .02 cents whatever you decide on, check your mix in mono on a TV set or what have you. I listened to an old Fleetwood Mac record Kiln House which has some nice moments on it. Hearing drums on the left and voices on the right made me squonk. It was imposed on The Beatles then everyone thought it w...

Re: Help Me! I'm so lost

I agree with what everyone has said. I would add that you might find one of those really old mono reel to reels from the early 60's. Like a 3M machine or that brand... Revere, Sony, Akai, etc. It looks like a box that could be either a Regular 8mm movie projector or a portable turntable, yet when yo...

since you're all talking synths...

Re: Pin 3 Hot for MTR 10 isn't enough....

I believe it's balanced. It's a 1/4" stereo plug from the mixer to a XLR Male into the Otari.

Pin 3 Hot for MTR 10 isn't enough....

Hello, I have a mixer which I'm sending signal to an Otari MTR 10 II-C. It's a solid state mixer with op amps but no transformers. Anyway, since the MTR 10 is pin 3 hot (or so I believe) I have made wires so that the pins are reversed because the mixer is pin 2+ and the 2 track deck is pin 3+. Ok, t...
