Thx for the suggestions. ITs funny we have tried a lot of different approaches to this problem. Both the singer and I have scaled back our guitar amps from 50 watt combos to 15 watts. Our new drummer isnt nearly the basher our old one is. But still her voice gets lost in the mix live. There is alway...

Live Vocal Mic for a Quiet Female Vocal Suggestions?

Hey folks. I need your help. I need to find a really good vocal mic for a quiet female vocalist. We play in a sort of noisy indie rock band, kind of 90's indie rock influenced. But no matter how quiet we seem to get it really hard to get our vocalists voice really present in the mix live. She has a ...

Ableton Live as yr DAW

Are any of you out there using ableton live as your main DAW? I used to use it back about 8 years ago for making drone stuff and I really loved it. Im starting to make more ambient/drone type stuff again and I would really like to pick up the new version. However with a hefty price tag like that, I ...

Im using 003 and subscribed to the "if it's not broke, dont fix it" mentality with my recording set up. For some reason it was a huge pain to get the 003 working on my system so I stuck with XP rather than going through more potential hassle. But now im feeling the draw to better conversion and ulti...

So after using Reaper for a week, im not totally sold on it. Perhaps I have worked with protools long enough that Im just so used to the work flow. I guess it's time to cave and buy PT10. Im still using 8 but im looking to upgrade my computer (still running xp) I might take the dive and go mac too. ...

For me im totally a vocals in the mix kinda guy, so to mix with the vocals more up front weirds me out. Its what the client wanted so i ran with it. Its funny I was teasing the singer about "Bonoing" his vocals up so thats a totally apt comparison. As far as the vocal sound, its all a Heil PR30 into...

A Psych/electonic band I just worked with!

I have never submitted anything in this forum before. So I figured it was about time! Here's a psychedelic? electronic? band I just worked with from my home town. This was pretty difficult to mix due to technical problems with the electronics due to a stolen laptop but we made due. The vocals are a ...

Luckily both of our flights are direct so there is little fear of the guitars getting lost. We checked with the airline and the guitars have to be checked luggage, but we can gate check them so they are the last items to go on. Im not too worried. Thanks for the tips!

Flying with electric Guitars

Is there anything I should know? A band im moonlighting in is heading to the UK on Monday and this will be my first time flying with a guitar. I bought a fitted flight case and had the guitar all setup for the trip. Im going to bring my guitar tools to do tweaks when I get over there. Is there anyth...

Id have to say JJ and Mullards are my favorite. Great tone and reliability. I have yet to have a JJ or Mullard go microphonic on me. The worst I have come across in my travels are Mesa tubes (avoid at all cost IMO). I worked in a guitar shop for a few years and we had quite a few issues with Mesa tu...

MINI MAC

So it's time to get rid of my PC and go Mac. Looking at my options the Mini Mac seems pretty amazing considering the price. Does anyone out there use one of these to record? Despite not having a disc drive I can't really see a draw back. Please debunk this for me! Thx!

Try and find an NAD from the 70's. Those things sound amazing and are built like tanks! I found my NAD 3080 for $40 at a garage sale! Sansui's from the 70's are also pretty amazing as noted above!
