Re: Izotope rx2 or other denoiser?

If there's no alternative, their programs, I think, run fully-featured for 10 days in trial mode, so if it's just a one-time thing you could give it a shot. Also RX Elements, the cheaper version of their current thing, is only 29 bucks if you don't need anything craaaazay. Alternately, it's been dis...

Re: Click tracks. Love them/Hate them.

Almost everything I record is my own band's music, which is 99% overdubs, so almost all of it ends up recorded to a click for syncing purposes. What I usually do is track drums first, to a click (but I'm a pretty floppy drummer so it ends up sounding kind of live); then I remove the click and track ...

Re: Comparing pre-amps: UA Apollo Twin MKII vs...

Thanks for the preamp perspective. As for expansion... Optical in can add 8 ins at 48khz, 4 at 96khz...sometimes there are different implementations of this depending on the devices in question but this is normally how it works with adat. I think I didn't ask my question clearly enough. What I mean ...

Comparing pre-amps: UA Apollo Twin MKII vs...

Hi all Apollo users! I’ve been wondering how exactly those things sound compared to other preamps I currently have available. Gear context: For the last 7 years I’ve been using a Roland Octacapture that to my ears sounds a lot better than the Presonus Firepod I had previously. I also have a Golden A...

Re: Old Colony Mastering build recap

Let me elaborate!!! It sounds weird because I had never heard music so removed from the reflections of the room it was played in, with such a distinct stereo image, as in this carefully treated mastering room. So it sounded CRAZY to me, but, like, in an incredibly precise and revealing way. Which is...

Oh, taping over that bar in the middle is a great idea. Gonna do it this week. If this thing is essentially 421-quality and I got it for 20 bucks, I scored like crazy regardless of how ugly it is!

!!!!!!!!!!! I think A.David.MacKinnon is correct! It looks exactly like that photo! Weird, I had never heard of this model before. I've tested it and it passes signal. Appears to sound pretty clear, but as you can see from this Vine here, physically, it's beat: https://vine.co/v/hZ1bnmViuhV I wonder...

ANYWAY I'll check it out when I'm back from my biz trip. It has no bass rolloff switch and no serial number visible. LIFE IS A MYSTERY!!

Haven't checked signal yet but the clip is broken (big surprise!) and the basket is completely detached (though I have it). Thanks for the link- I think it's the same as that matte grey one! Just black instead.

Repairing a mystery Sennheiser MD421

Hey guys - At a recent yard sale, I got a busted-up (REALLY busted-up) 421 of some indeterminate vintage with the express purpose of having it repaired. It was only 20 bucks so I figured it was worth a shot. Apparently Sennheiser themselves only modern models, and that conversation was the starting ...

Roland Octa-Capture - monitoring w/ FX vs. recording w/ FX

Does anyone know offhand whether the Octa-Capture RECORDS the effects you have activated? I'm under the impression that the reverb is only for latency-free monitoring and does not pass into the DAW, whereas the compression DOES pass into the DAW and is not solely for monitoring. Any experience with ...
