Culture changes language. Or ruins it.

Definition of terms is critical in communication!

Sometime I feel really old...

Re: 8 Different dynamic mics as overheads

ST:TNG episode 162, "Inheritance" In which Data realizes he has not actually met his mother upon hearing her give a second violin recital. Took me a couple hours, but I got it. It was worth it. I still don't, but maybe it will come to me. I'll simply add, for no apparent reason: "Help me! Spock! HE...

Re: 8 Different dynamic mics as overheads

>>>>Only if you have an amateur playing.<<<< Yes, I have to disagree here. Colauitta's awesomeness aside, there will _always_ be variances in each performance with a live player; that is the beauty of a real performer in the first place. You could go with some type of electronic simulation-- recorde...

Re: 8 Different dynamic mics as overheads

True, science and craft might be a bit at odds with this type of activity, which is why we usually say "the recording arts." If we took specific measurements with some type of test equipment, it wouldn't matter because we all hear things differently and have different preferences. And, one solution ...

Re: 8 Different dynamic mics as overheads

Even more interesting now that I've listened to several bars of each. Very interesting to hear the subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle differences in EQ/brilliance, output, amount of high-end smearing or lack, etc. The ATM25 has a much brighter quality in that application than I would have thought! I...

That looks fascinating Tony. I can't listen now, but I will.

ATM25 as an overhead! What will they think of next?

The ATM25 is the best. A place I work out of has 3. I need to go get one of my own .
I second that emotion. ATM 25 outside the front head, EQ to taste.

Re: Underwater Fantasies Of Magical Mermaids

"PsuedoProg." Marvelous! Moody chord changes? Check. Nice easy groove? Check. 60's-inspired plectrum style electric bass? Check. Reverb-swimmy guitar? Check. Tremolo'd space organ? Check. Nice intertwining acoustic lines? Check. Nice imaging and use of effects too. I'd beef the drums up a little in ...

Re: Tempo Shock

This reminds me of-- the mustard and qualude sandwiches some of my college friends used to consume (sorry, channeled vvv for a moment  ). But seriously folks, any amount of hyper-critical listening will begat more-- hyper-critical listening. Your ears are fine. But give them, and your brain...

Also, I'd love to advocate for another abbreviation for "Glyn Johns." Throws me off every time!

Re: Does anyone use overheads?

As per the other thread, I quite like having the "overheads" down at or below cymbal height, and positioning them for the best overall drum sound/ balance/ stereo spread, which often means one in front and one on the floor tom side. Even so when it comes to mix time, quite often I start with good i...
