Thanks! If I don't end up coming up with anything and I need some tones I'll let you know. I don't have an MRL for it. I don't want to buy one until I know for sure I can use this thing as normal! I sent the photos to JRF magnetics to see if they've ever seen anything like this before. I had already...

For fans of Ramones, Wire, Heartbreakers, NY Dolls etc.

Hey guys. My band Joy Shooters just released this EP. It was tracked at Treehouse Records in Chicago. I mixed it, and it was mastered by Carl Saff here in Chicago. Cover artwork by Jonathan Burden.

Sorta 70s punk stuff. Have a listen if you'd like:

MCI JH-110C / MCI JH-110C-3-TC Head Question

I picked up a 1/4" 2 track MCI JH-110C for a good price. From digging around in my manual it looks to be actually an MCI JH110C-3-TC It has this time code drawer and the head stack actually has 4 heads. From looking in the manual, the two audio heads are standard NAB track widths. The record head is...

Yeah, I think a lot want digital, although I do have to send the promo company 250 CDs w/ a spine, so I guess a lot still like CDs. I believe they submit to around 400 stations, so I guess well over 50% still use CDs and traditional one-sheets. I'm sure that will change in the not so distant future.

I think the thing is, now that traditional distribution channels are basically no longer needed for fans to access product, labels are no longer needed by working bands and artists, except to act basically as banks to bands who can't afford recording, promo, pressing, merch etc. on their own. Now, d...

Will do, I guess everyone in the band is 100% in at this point, so we'll be doing the campaign, probably in October/November. I'll report back. ;)

Yeah, the only reason I mentioned more touring is because regardless of what kind of PR you're spending your money on, you're way more likely to get press/spins if your band has upcoming shows in the markets where the PR is taking place. A couple thousand bucks is a small price to pay for getting y...

Thanks for all the comments so far. It's extremely helpful. I guess to be pretty straight forward, if the campaign showed results, we'd make arrangements to tour around those results if it seems worthwhile. We do a lot of regional shows outside of Chicago, and do quite well out of town, so in a perf...

Thanks for the responses. Funny the buzz words were mentioned, I'm a freelance graphic designer and do a lot of branding work, so in my mind, much like candy bars, a band is somewhat, at the end of the day, another brand to push. :) It's Planetary Group, they do radio promo, PR, and tour press. We c...

The impact of college radio in 2013?

I'm not sure where to post this since there doesn't seem to be an appropriate sub-forum for this that I can find, so moderators feel free to move it. I'm looking for some advice, or maybe just some general feedback, from other artists, label people, and just regular old music fans about what they fe...

It's really fun to use, but takes some getting used to and learning to set it up is somewhat of a pain. I think it's worth it for the drums though. Maybe someday I'll move up to a 2" 24 track and just do whole albums on it. :)

Cool, really glad you're enjoying the record. It took forever to record! So here's the geeky details: My bandmate and I did all the tracking and mixing. Drums were tracked to tape on an Otari MX5050-8. Pres were generally from a Soundcraft Spirit Studio 24 track mixer. I did use a Focusrite ISA One ...
