Maybe you are looking for this? I did a search of "AKAI M8 Mods" and this came up: http://www.lacinato.com/cm/audio/robertsmod I did find that and I also found a downloadable zip with all the original stuff RodC had come up with/additional notes. Has anyone out there done this/is anyone out there u...

Akai M8/Roberts DIY Preamps

Does anyone have current info on how to do these mods? I've got am M8 I'd love to turn into a set of preamps but all the sites and links to the mods and instructions are dead.

These can't be used as pre's stock, right?

Teac A-3440 Advice

I picked up an A-3440 for free yesterday. It kind of worked but it was obviously very clean and very well maintained and was, well, free. Took the back off - the belts are shot. New ones on the way. Started cleaning it. Not too bad. The erase head is really used but the other 2 heads are in OK condi...

As a follow-up, we started tracking. We used a Tascam M30 and a Tascam 22-4 4 track 1/4" reel to reel. The only thing to show for it as of now is this short, rough mix (and even more roughly "mastered") clip of one of the new songs that we're using to promo our Kickstarter. https://soundcloud.com/cr...

Nice vibe and atmosphere, and mic choices - it's shaping up pretty sweet, I dig it! A Junior Kimbrough cover, is it not? Your 666 and 664 sound way different than my 666. Mine's all 500-800 midrange. A cool effect-y mic, but not as clear sounding as yours. Hmm... Thank you sir. As for the mics I ca...

Actually I'll do one better. Mind you this is a very rough mix (and even more rough master) of just a bit of a song we're using for our crowdfunding campaign. https://soundcloud.com/crookedsaws/sad-days-lonely-nights-clip The mics: SM57 with the output transformer removed close on the snare. Rode NT...

Full recordings are coming, I just want to have them done before I share.

In the meantime we're doing this fundraiser for the new album, if anyone is interested. The promo video is, at least, pretty funny.

Here's a little something that's an intro. Just a little taste.

We started the album on Fri. Set up drums, got a good sound straight to PT using 4 mics. 1: A modded sm57 on the snare. 2: A tube mic out front about 3 feet out and up (which has just become my preferable kick/kit mic placement). 3: A modded MXL large condenser hanging from the ceiling in the far co...

Not quite 1/4" but damn close enough, and was a huge hit. Ottmar Liebert Noveau Flamenco. http://ottmarliebert.com/music/album/nouveau-flamenco 1/2" 16 track Fostex E-16 tape machine. I did a transfer to ProTools over 10 years ago for remixing. I would think 4 track 1/4" would sound better than 16 t...

Thanks all. Shitty Is Pretty was the inspiration for our first album: www.thecrookedsaws.bandcamp.com It did well but we would have gotten more play and more placements if the production value had been better. IF it's DAW, the bigger picture would be the preamps on the M30's, a Digi003, and a wide v...

Looking For Ideas To Make Album Sound...Not Modern

My band is getting ready to cut our next album in a couple of weeks. We're doing it at a friend's rehearsal space that is pretty dead but has very high ceilings. Recorded the last album on the 388 in my living room which is all wood, high ceilings, and very live. I like the sound of that album a lot...

I'll just reply to myself and leave it here for anyone who might encounter the same thing: the noise is from the laptop (my daw) being plugged in. Unplugged it's very quiet.

Tried some acoustic tracked through the M30 into the DAW next to tracks tracked through a Tascam US-1800. No comparison.
