Manuals are available from Teac. Scotch 150 was introduced in 1954, the time of the Ampex 350 (long before the Teac 1230). The 1230 was produced in the early 70's, the time of 3M (Scotch) 206 / 207 and Ampex 406 / 407. The bias required for these tapes is not significantly different from modern stoc...

- Topic: Snake for Otari MX5050 - going from unbalanced to balanced?

Your best bet would be to modify the Otari (and any other pin 3 hot gear you may have) to pin 2 hot. Sigh. I guess you are right. I was convinced it sounded less daunting to solder some cable ends than go digging into the back of the machines. I guess we'll see... If you're daunted by modifying the...

That's Delaney's voice, a microphone and a preamp. No processors.

Soundcraft 200 outputs are unbalanced on an XLR with pin 2 hot, pin 1 & 3 ground. Otari 5050 inputs are unbalanced on an XLR with pin 3 hot, pin 1 & 2 ground. Do you know if that applies to the MTR models as well? MTR machines are balanced in and out. I don't know if they are pin 2 or 3 hot. Servic...

We compared the Latte to the Burl B2 ADC. Both great units but completely different beasts. The Burl is rock, with a forward sonic presence. Straight ahead easy to use. The Latte is more neutral but with it's multitude of features and possible modes utilization, setting it up often requires popping ...

Ignore the mumbo-jumbo. Study the data in the Belden and Mogami catalogs. These manufacturers make many different types of cable because no cable is ideal. Depending on the application, certain specifications become more critical than others. Cable design is always a compromise. You don't gain one t...

Never dealt with a Tandberg but a Sony TC 350 was my main machine in the late '60's. Remove the head assembly cover (2 set screws hold it on) and see if the capstan motor is turning when the machine is on. The pressure roller which presses the tape against the capstan retracts down when the machine ...
