thanks, but all the jacks seem to be fine. the rattling noise is something inside that falls from one end to the other when I turn it vertically or end-over-end (if that makes any sense). So there's something in there still that's totally free. I'll double check the jacks and do a little more invest...

anybody know what part this is from a Tascam 424 mkII?
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x268/nealstein/0708112243b-1.jpg So I was all fired up to record some shit with my trusty old Portastudio, but when I picked it up I heard something rattling inside. I cracked it open and found this. I can't tell where it came from and I don't know what the hell i...

+1 for the Duncan JB. Got one in my Ibanez and my friend has one in his Explorer. Lots of mids and punchy lows. I also have a Duncan '59 in the bridge position of my '86 Les Paul and that guitar sounds fucking perfect to me. It's kinda retarded that I don't use that guitar more, but I'm not a big fa...

Upright bass has been one of the most challenging things to make sound good in my experience. Jazz will require a different approach than a classical piece and will be different than a country/rockabilly thing. Depending on the player and the instrument, a small condenser towards the end of the fing...

another question for people who record metal: can you talk about your approach to rhythm guitars? are you typically eqing at the board/itb or are you able to go with the eq on the amp? what sort of compression, if any, is necessary? i'm guessing there can be pretty big dynamic swings between the pa...

Very awesome interesting reading with all this! MY introduction to Flemming Rasmussen was with Morbid Angel's "Covenant" album and other work with the band... I put MOP in last night and admit I was a bit surprised at the sound, being a fairly experienced metal music listener. But it sounded good t...

It's interesting that there seems to be two Metallica's. "Black Album" and after, and the "classic three/four". I think this phenomenon can be elegantly explained by Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, in which Bill and Ted are killed and replaced by Evil Robots. In Metallica's case, we have a slight dev...

Instead of starting a new thread, I just wanted to add that I used an SM-7 for the first time tonight. Working on vocals for some metal stuff and I'm really glad I bought this mic. Very smooth and clear sounding. Condensers usually sound too bright or hard for screamers (to me), and this mic sounds ...

I'm sort of a distortion addict. Love the Maxon OD-9. It actually is better than my Ibanez TS-9, which is nice. For fuzz, I won't part with my silver NYC Big Muff. Reealy want a silicon Fuzz Face. Those things are sweet, and ya I dig the silicon fuzz I've tried out over the germanium. Keeley Fuzz He...

Such an impossible list... Has any one said Mr. Bungle - California? Can't argue with the standards: Beatles, Stones, Floyd, Zep, Beach Boys, Thriller, Electric Ladyland, Back In Black/Highway to Hell... I want to find out who recorded Earl Scruggs' Foggy Mountain Banjo. That record is 50 years old ...

Not necessarily what I would say are my favorite records, but definitely some that made me think about things differently. The Wall - I can't even listen to this record anymore, but it altered my perception profoundly at an early age. ...And Justice for All - First real metal record I can remember h...
