When I was an undergrad, one of my classmates in a Max programming class had synaesthesia - for her final project she programmed a patch that, when fed a monophonic input, would show the color her synaesthesia 'produced' for her. It was really, really cool. I would LOVE to see this program- I'm gue...

Does synaesthesia correspond to wavelength? So low frequencies are red, higher ones are violet?
Or is the experiences of synaesthesia different for each person?

Didn't Geoff Emerick experience it to some degree?

We really need more information. Does she mean little girl's bedroom purple, ourple like the leaves of certain plants, Royal Purple? Well from the discussion we then went on to have, Royal Purple was the intention- her description was that purple sounds rich and robust, with a velvety smoothness. I...

Surely Prince's vocals are more 'blue'?

Colours

I told my other half that I was having trouble getting the right 'colour' for vocals in a current project. She listened and suggested that they should be more purple. She may have been taking the p**s given my use of the word colour. But we did have a long conversation about what that could actually...

UK Ops - Tape Suppliers?

Been using http://www.svsmedia.orangehome.co.uk/wa2a.htm but they have been taken over and are really low on stocks.

StudioSpares I know of, but is there another UK supplier worth using for RMG tape?

Yeah, I mean the drift was really bad- like out by about 2 bars by the end. Luckily, the first 8 tracks were live rhythm section and the ODs were vox and guitars, mending it with elastic audio was possible and the tracks still usable. But I don't want to use it as the solution all the time because o...

388 Accessory Port

I often use the 388 to track and dump to digital to mix. Recently did a project where I had to expand beyond the 8 tracks for overdubs. Resorted to digital dump of the first 8> mono rough mix of these back to a channel on the 388 to act as guide for the OD> do overdubs on the 388 > dump these 8 trac...

A little OT, but... As someone who works out of a small studio in a small scene town in the UK, I can safely say that it's certainly not the case that I don't want a kid in the way. If you're looking for interning, then you need to understand that every medium/large town in the UK has a college that...

For me, it's all project dependant. If it's financially backed, with promotion strategy, airplay, tour etc etc then I advise the band/producer to master with a pro, and offer my suggestions of trustworthy individuals. I'll be more inclined to decline. If it's demo/promo or for shits n giggles, then ...

Wait- multiband EXPANSION!? This changes EVERYTHING!

I'm on a multiband honeymoon right now. After years of considering it a mastering tool, I've started using them on mixes and it has improved things drastically. I love the way that you can lift and subdue separate harmonic components of instruments dynamically- it's giving me WAY more control of the...

Drum Kit Room Mics

I seem to be having problems maintaining definition on my kick drum when employing room mics as part of the drum sound. I have 2 PZM mics up on the wall facing the front of the drum kit, about 12 ft apart with the wall being around 8ft away from the kit. The mics are around 7 ft up from the floor. N...

Remote Mixing Collaboration

Hi all, Working on a mix project for a guy that lives quite a distance from me. Basically I'm looking into a way that I can feed a live audio stream to him from the mix bus as I'm working on it. I'll be running a Skype linkup from a laptop so that we can chat, but I wanted to ensure the audio he was...
