Dumb question here, do I need leader tape when I load the tape into my 388? Is it cool if the ends of the tape a a bit bent?

I think that when I took it to get serviced they biased it for my tape & aligned it.

Alright, so after having my tascam 388 sitting in my practice space, gathering dust, I finally ended up getting it fixed up and biased. I'm pretty much asking what else I would need to record on it. Any good suggestions for a school? I've heard that Belmont is a good choice, but when I try to research it, I keep getting all of these "technical" schools.

I just picked up a 388 today for $250, the seller also gave me a reel of quantegy 642. I'm completely clueless when It comes to analog recording. help!

So I just got back from getting a tascam 388 off craigslist, $250 with a reel of Quantegy 642. It has a problem with fast forwarding, but other than that, its in great condition. This is my first "analog" recording unit, Hopefully you guys can help me getting it up and running!

how much better would the sound quality on the 388 be compared to the 644?

Well, I live in Chicago, so Deltronics in the city maybe? Where would I get tape for it, and if I did get it, how would I go about getting it onto a cd? (I'm an idiot with this stuff)
