Dammit! The Coles 4071B is great.... but discontinued in USA. fwiw, I've heard of other North American people buying gear from Thomann's in Europe, and it looks like the 4071B link is from Thomann's. You might look into it and see what the out-the-door cost would be to import the mount from there. ...

ouch. Respect. I remember seeing Ann Peebles in SF in the early nlneties, touring with members of that original Hi house band. Teenie might not have been out with them, but it was definitely his brother on bass and Howard Grimes on drums. And the thing is . . . they sounded JUST LIKE those records. ...

Just watched it and liked it but I feel like there should be a memo sent to all people making music docs that says - #1) stop talking about how some place/studio/town/etc had magic in it and maybe talk about how a bunch of talented people managed to find each other and then worked really, really, r...

That's a good point. I don't know why I went off on that rant except maybe that I wanted to iterate that solo'd instruments can sound really crappy, until you un-solo them and voila. And sometimes the solo'd track is not so much crappy as just really boring. I remember hearing some basic tracks to ...

But to answer your question, and since I've been in a roots reggae mood for a couple of months, I'll throw Peter and Bunny from the Wailers in there as well. They just blended so well and wrote/sang such perfect back-ups/harmonies. I like the I-Threes just fine, but the original Wailers smoke them ...

Congratulations! Good choices. I find I keep coming back to the title track on that Leroy Jenkins album, over the years. It's weird but it grows on you. LIVE AT MONTREUX is pretty much continuously great from the opening through "Lights on a Satellite," which makes a nice climax to the first part of...

I turned on the Avantone and someone was yelping and singing in there. Then I realized it was me.

I go to the cafe, where they play old music and one speaker has been broken for years. The Beatles come on and Ringo disappears.

What I'm looking for at the moment (not just in Sun Ra) is any great stuff at the crossroads of classical, avante garde and jazz. It's a very interesting location! I never got very far with music theory, but I enjoy what i enjoy. Lately Bartok, Dolphy and right now some Andrew Hill (and of course I...

Anyone care to break these down a bit? Your favorites and not so much so ones as well. LIVE AT MONTREUX has this amazing run of tunes on it, from the beginning of the album through "LIghts on a Satelllite" (really beautiful version with Gilmore and a flute section playing this tight cluster of note...
