dream house
this past summer i had a chance to check out La Monte Young's "Dream House", a permanent installation in Tribeca. Pretty interesting sonics, similar to the binaural beat concept. 4 PA speakers in each corner of the room, each broadcasting a different constant frequency (very loudly, I might add). St...

Redco
I just got 10 25' canare mic cables from redco, partially based on their tapeop recommendation by andy hong. they're super nice guys, and the cables are very well made. I solder a lot of my own cables, and actually did some manufacturing for transparent, very picky about the the workmanship. The red...

sign me up! i'm in portland, and hearing about the ballet was amazing enough. but once we saw the youtube clips, we were completely blown away. it nearly brought a coworker to tears.
i'll look out for the dvd in a week or so...
btw, both portland shows at space were unbelievable.

bridge?
What about micing at the bridge, as opposed to the 12th fret or elsewhere? seems to thin out the sound, as long as you know it's being used in a dense mix and won't have to stand alone. I have a slightly related acoustic question. How did people get that thick 60s acoustic sound? I'm thinking small ...

i have a fuzz factory, and love it, but it sounds nothing like a big muff. doesn't have the low end of a big muff, at least to me. if you don't have one, try it out sometime. tons of variations. that said, i don't know a heck of a lot about the big muff lineage. i have a weirdo fuzz by rick gram cal...

nope. no level control, metering, or anything really. the TTP has a sort of built in limiter that i think is used to raise the volume of lectures, because it sounded like ass when recording music. otherwise, crazy convenient. record, and then drag the WAV file from the ipod like any external harddri...

ipod mic
i got the belkin tunetalk pro. very useful but distorted fairly heavily at a show i tried recording. might have to use the line-in and a separate mic for loud shows.
otherwise, it sounds pretty great, and is amazingly convenient. replacing an old sharp md recorder, and an old cassette dictaphone.

70s EH Memory Man, Grey box
EH Memory Man. I believe it's a 70s version, grey box, looks like this: http://electroharmonix.ronsound.com/gallery/delays/mm1.jpg actually, this is very close, scratches and all. I recently had it serviced by: http://www.ronsound.com/ working great now! Noisy but beautiful. Looking for $160 or best...

teaser stallion
I'd like to chime in and say this is a great deal for a teaser stallion. I have one and it's pretty incredible in the right context, basically the 2nd channel creates synth/oscillator type sounds that interact with your direct signal. the pitch of the generated signal can be controlled with the guit...

Pitchfork
I was there both days, pretty amazing all around. Water was only a buck & food was reasonable. I loved Destroyer's set, but then I think he's one of the best things going right now. Also really loved Jens Lekman, CSS, Futureheads, Silver Jews, Matmos, Yo La Tengo, and of course Os Mutantes. I though...

Ron Sexsmith
No info on the recordings, but he's one of my favorites, too. I heard an interview on NPR with him in 99 or so. He referenced the Kinks as one of his early songwriting influences. I got to see him play a free show in NYC outdoors once, he completely killed as far as I'm concerned. "God loves everyon...

weber
another vote for weber speakers, but make sure to give them a little time to break in after you've installed them. sometimes they sound a little strange right out of the box. also, do some reading on the weber forums. lots of good info to help you make a speaker decision, especially ceramic vs alnic...
