hot dougs

hot dougs may be the first place I check out. unbelieveable.

Thanks for the tips. I saw some of those cheap hotels online, and wondered if it's worth staying downtown. Glad to have my suspicions confirmed.

Thanks!

Really appreciate the help. Looks like the areas you're talking about aren't too far from Union Park, where the festival will be. One other question: Is the general downtown area pretty easy to navigate by public transportation, or will we be cabbing it everywhere? Basic questions, I know. Thanks ag...

My wife and I are planning on going to the pitchfork festival in chicago next month ??a city I really know nothing about. any chicago folks with advice on cheap hotels, decent food, guitar shops, thrift stores, etc? My wife would dig any crafty leads as well ? handmade clothes, cut+paste style shops...

Re: Very Nice

We recorded our album through the old muscle shoals consel to two inch tape (MCI). I am looking to develop my home studio skills however and you have given me some hope here. Though I understand there is quite the learning curve. Again, thanks for posting! Greg What kind of console from Muscle Shoa...

Re: Very Nice

I'm enjoying these tunes as well. What was this recorded to, if I may ask? Very retro and warm nevertheless. Thanks! We recorded to a Digi002r, also used one of those behringer ADA8000 for a couple extra tracks. 12" Powerbook G4. I'm glad you think it's warm sounding, as I do too, and I think most ...

nels

I think Nels helps bring out the best in wilco. I saw that show in Portland, too. Amazing. The show in 2004 right after Ghost is born came out seemed a little edgier to me, though. I might have preferred it in some ways. This one they seemed very comfortable being showmen, working the crowd, etc. I ...

kramer

Thanks! I didn't mean anything negative about kramer, he was awesome. i guess most of the people on this board are mixing their own stuff, which we've always done in the past, so i felt a little funny putting something up that we had help with. let me know when your mixes are finished, i'd love to c...

we were fairly light with direction, other than we wanted to keep it fairly natural sounding, light on effects. I think we mentioned Harvest and the Band's brown album as references. He mentioned Harvest as one of his favorite records, btw. the first tune we got had lush reverb and a crazy vocal loo...

harps

thanks for being honest! always curious how other people hear it. they're definitely not modern sounding mixes, but I actually like the sort of intuitive approach he took. some elements pop out a bit more than you'd expect, other things are a little soft and hazy. i think he worked pretty quickly an...

Folky rock, Kramer helped

We're a folk-rock type band up here in Portland, Maine. Tracked these songs in the orchestral room of a school in Yarmouth. We actually camped out there, and tracked the whole record in 2.5 days. http://harpswellsound.com/photos/nya_0106/index.html Hope no one holds it against me that Kramer mixed t...

"racing in the street" definitely leaps out of those 70s records to me. perfectly captures that haunting nostalgia, the "teenage feeling" (neko case). I like the 70s boss pretty well, but that track is a stunner, I think. the 1975 hammersmith concert on pbs was also pretty amazing, i thought. i don'...
