FS: UK- Otari MTR90 mk2 2" 24track
For sale is my fantastic MTR90 2" -Mk2 model -24tracks -remote/locator -i/o cables, manual, calibration tape, some spare parts The machine is in fantastic condition, having been a 'b' machine for most of it's life in a mid-sized commercial studio. Maintained as well as the 'a', but used sparingly. I...

There must be some kind of disease going round - I too bought five pairs of these after a four-day stint at Electrical. Over pretty heavy use since 2006 only one pair crapped out, going dead on one side after a few months. the rest have soldiered on and taken all manner of abuse. They seem pretty ea...

Exactly the dilemma I had 18 mths ago. I knew the Studer would be more romantic, but reasoned that the day it broke down on a session or I ruined a punch on something important I'd immediately know it wasn't worth it. I went for the MTR90II and haven't looked back. It sounds great, holds calibration...

>Buuuuuuuuuuuuut-- the results do have to speak for themselves. If the band hears the results and is not overwhelmed-- then something is amiss, either the mixer's judgement or the band's ears. LOVE the interviews with Andy Wallace where he says things like "if the band thinks substantial changes nee...

Thanks chaps. I wondered if there were any 'leader tape nazis' making records today, but it seems not. Is there a functional difference between paper and mylar? I've only ever had mylar in the UK except on a couple of GP9 reels from Electrical Audio with White paper spacing. I like the sound of it r...

Can anyone explain conventions in leadering tape?
So I understand the theory and am perfectly able to leader tape, but I have no idea of the *actual* thinking behind the practise. I'm looking for any and all thinking on the subject. In my understanding it's done to protect tape edges, indicate head/tail (green/red?), separate tones/bias pad/program...

I've always wanted to try a mix where gtr/drums are hard r/l, the plan being they take up equal space in the frequency spectrum... most probably with a tits amount of distortion and smashing. Strangely I've not yet had the opportunity! I have the same issue as you with gtr/drum bands or more commonl...

Thanks guys. I had to re-learn a couple of things when I got the machine; firstly that the MTR90 is different from Studers et al in that it doesn't use a pinch, but pulls the tape along with tension on a capstan roller. Secondly (and this was the hard part to acknolwedge) the service manual says to ...

Sticky capstan or sticky tape?
So in a few weeks I'll be kicking my G5 into the street and making records on our new (well not new ) MTR90. So anyway... Having aquired a stash of AGFA 468 I seem to have run into a problem. I've been running the transport periodically for the last couple of weeks and the last few times there's bee...
