Re: dynamic mics and speaker coils?
I think it's like Scodiddly wrote - the magnetic field stays mostly where it is and you would have to get very, very close for it to make a noticeable contribution besides that of the energy transfer picked up by the membrane/coil of the mic. On top of that, some mics have a humbucking coil so they ...

MD441 or a dark ribbon - the tip of putting the mic to the side is good to avoid abrasive high mids.

Re: Transducer use?
"exiter speaker" - you fix it to a window pane or a plate reverb and it shakes the thing - the other looks like a piezo contact mic to me and if you fix both to a plate you have a DIY plate reverb.

Re: Daking service
Thats the reason i usually buy from smaller companies, they are proud of their products and act accordingly.

Re: MD-421 clip lock
You are sooo right. Last time i handled a MD421 without that was 10 years ago and its crash into the floor head on was prevented only by the cable i was lucky enough to have gripped fast enough. There are some 3D-printed clips that also do the job but i don't got a link ready. The same goes for the ...

Re: amps vs. simulators
Hands up those who didn't fall off a ramp by now while unloading the equipment truck. In winter or strong rain. Anyone here who wasn't involved in a car accident while touring? Or who never snapped an ankle while dropping of a stage, with a 15"+1' monitor ...? And the UAD B15N really is a good bass ...

Re: amps vs. simulators
It helps when people know what it should sound like. Then you can get results with software ... and some of it is quite good already. I had high hopes for the Kemper V2, because i wasn't impressed by the Kemper just by the way it's analog i/o sounded when taking profiles... where i heard it lost 10%...

Re: transient designers
I use Sound Radix Drumleveler for this - it is much more than it looks like at first. You can use it as a compressor or as a gate. But the best thing IMHO is that you can manipulate the length of drum hits as you feel like, regardless of if its a loud or a soft hit. Or just take the transient of the...

Re: Watch out for this new scam (eBay or other)
I have to say i am a few years after the point where i consider Ebay or Paypal anything but unusable and corrupted, kinda like a division of goverment... both times i have been f___ed by them they firmly helped the crooks while i had all the documentation they "needed".

Re: SDCs for Choir & Orchestra & Audience recordings (sennheiser 80xx)
I used the MKHs on choirs and they sound good to me - i wasn't in a situation where i had to dial out external noises, but the Sennheisers had the best "reach" into the room while remaining natural of all the mics i had in that situation. I wouldn't hesitate to use them for overheads or a lot of oth...

Re: Cheap USB interface with ADAT?
Even cheaper than the Audient and IMHO quite good for the money is the Onyx 800R by Mackie. The preamps are nicer than you'd think they are. There's an even cheaper version of that with the Mackie Onyx Blackbird (same preamps), which is an older firewire interface that can also do standalone ADAT. I...

Re: Windows 11 and Firewire
I don't want to be forced by a company to update or abandon gear that's perfectly good. I have an office machine that's more or less current (=around 5 years old), a few recording machines that are more than 20 years old but run 100% stable, aren't connected to the net and do their job fine*. A mixi...

Re: Headphone recommendations?
I have some 20 Beyer DT990 / DT880 / DT770s here and a few others. They aren't perfect but sound okay and if i trip over the cable i can repair them easily. For looong tracking hours with high volume the Remote Audio headphones that have the Sony capsules (75...err...you know, those Sony headphones)...
