Something you could try is creating a new session and importing the tracks into it one by one to see if there is something wrong with a particular track.

It was the may mic system. I mainly saw it used live. You could buy your DW drums pre fitted with these mics. Just modified versions of common mics. But inside the drum with an XLR end coming out.

Cool but pricey at the time.

My latest Oh Shit moment was working on a post production project. I had imported the audio from an OMF but just linked to it rather than copy like I normally do. Well I did the mix etc... The client comes to me a week or so later with one line a frame out of sync. I go to pull up the session to fix...

I try and only go 8-10 hours. But we get some serious deadlines from time to time and all bets are off then. It can go crazy. I am not as young as I used to be. I could handle the 12-16 hour days for weeks on end. Now I really struggle. When the day has been a long one sometimes just getting up and ...

When I got the new system I did not realize that it would take so long to support the HDX card. I still have the old one on PT8hd for now if I have something critical. But I can be a beta tester for now.

Vintage gear is still totally relevant. It is the sound many are trying to get even using modern technology. If I use a waves emulation or a UAD emulation I am just trying get the sound of yesteryear on my modern recording. As already posted most vintage equipment was developed not necessarily to se...

Have you tried to mic it from the bottom? A good friend of mine who does mostly metal records both the top and the bottom head. He uses so many mics that it takes forever to work out phase issues etc.... He gets a good sound. But not what I want to do usually. I have miced the top head of the floor...

I have an HDX card. I am using HD 10.1 like I am supposed to. Using a MADI I/O to the Euphonix console. This week I finally got it up and running with a new mac (12 core). My HDX and MADI IO keep losing sync. It is all clocked via an Apogee Big Ben fed via Rosendahl Nanosyncs. I have done the usual ...

Two big differences are the converters and the algorithms. The cheaper units may also contain the same processors but some functions are disabled thus they are crippled versions of their big brothers. Don't think that re-enabling said functions will uncripple them as it is not that simple. Lexicon ...

High pass filters as mentioned before work wonders with basses and just about everything else except the kick. Also the EQ goes to 15 for a reason. Sometimes you need it. It is always best to be the player you want and to have the ultimate instrument. But make do with what you have. Strings are fair...

I like working from home. I can get way more done in less time at home than I can at work. I am constantly being interrupted at work by other engineers with questions about time code or routing etc... at home I can just get on with it. I usually find when working from home that I am most productive ...

headphones are very useful. Especially if you listen to other music on them. Just like your monitors they can help you make the decisions for your mix. A few months ago I was up late at home and mixed an entire song on my laptop using just headphones as my monitors. I pulled up the mix the next day ...

Cascade Fathead Pair, Euphonix MC Control, API 512C

I have a few items for sale. I have a Cascade Fat Head pair. These are not version 2. They have the Blumlein bar and case. They have only been used in the studio. Great mics but am moving on. Asking $300.00 I also have a Euphonix MC Control V1. This is the one with 4 faders and all the edit function...

My favorite overheads are typically AKG 414s. They sound excellent in the room I record in. I have not heard the 102 or KM69 so I can't officially comment there. But I have a set of Oktavas the 012 and they are nice. Do not blow anyone away but nice. They are similar to the KM184 and would be a nice...
