Tascam 388 signal issue
Hello all, Hoping someone might be able to give me some insight on a strange issue I'm having with my Tascam 388. Essentially, I'm having a pan issue. All channels are basically coming through as a mono signal and will not pan. When I do pan left or right the signal gets quieter but stays mono. I've...

Re: Tascam 388 right channel
I can give that a shot this evening. I should say, yesterday when I was looking things over, the issue actually changed. Now what's happening is it's switched to a weird mono thing. Essentially what is happening now is that both channels are coming through with sound but it seems to be a mono signal...

Re: Tascam 388 right channel
I pretty much tried some combination of every button pressed and not pressed. Thanks for asking about the mono and meter. Forgot to mention that the first post. When mono is engaged both channels produce sound. And both main meters are reading correctly whether it's mono, stereo, panned left/right. ...

Re: Tascam 388 right channel
So I just checked and yeah it's happening across the full spectrum. Just replaced the right bus fader but it didn't help. I'm going to try changing the master fader tonight to see if that helps. Any other thoughts? I've had pretty good luck trouble shooting but swapping parts, but this might be the ...

Tascam 388 right channel
Hi all, I'm having an issue with the right channel I'm hoping someone may be able to help with. Essentially, the right channel is not giving any playback. Anything panned right just goes silent. I've had the machine for a while so I know I'm not missing anything as far as normal functions go. Also, ...

Re: DIY modding/fixing of gear, what voltages are dangerous?
I've actually been curious about the same thing. I've built some pedal kits in the past, but haven't done much else circuitry of electronics. I'm planning on replacing caps on some of the boards for my Tascam 388. I think most are straightforward, but one is the power supply board. The power supply ...

Re: Tascam 388 monitors
Thanks for the response. I realized after posting that in my excitement to hook up my new monitors, I had them connected to the stereo outs on the back. I hooked them up using the monitor outs and all is good. There is still a little issue running the monitors and headphones at the same time. The he...

Tascam 388 monitors
I've been using the 388 for a long time but only recently starting using monitors. I previously had been using headphones for most recording, and have been pretty, uh, simple with mixing. I'm excited to start mixing more appropriately with monitors, but I'm wondering about volume. I want to mix down...

Re: Hooking up a Tascam 388 to a Pioneer SR 202W Spring Reverb
Thanks for the response. Hope you’ll be patient with me. I’m still trying to figure this out since I’ve been using effects a little more lately. To put it on a track, do you mean to use it individually on a track using the access send/rtn? And to use it as an insert would that be through the pgm bus...

Re: Hooking up a Tascam 388 to a Pioneer SR 202W Spring Reverb
Resurrecting this old thread because I am having the same problem. I want to run this same reverb unit through the effects loop on my 388. I have it set up like above picture. The reverb is all the way up on the 202, and i have the master effect gain, effect rtn gain, and effect channel gain all sit...

WTB calibration tapes
Thought I would see if anyone has any calibration tapes they might no longer be using and are willing to sell. I’m specifically looking for 1/4” tapes at 250 nWb/m at both 7.5 ips and 15 ips speeds. The MRL equivalents are 21t204 and 21j205.

Another quick question. My left monitor VU meter works fine, until it peaks, then it just rests there on the right side. It will not work after that. However, if I lightly tap the meter itself, it will swing back to it's normal resting position on the left side. I guess my question is: is this fixab...

Turns out reseating the channel card worked like a charm. I know issues with this machine aren't always this easily solved, so I'll take it. I agree mostly with your thoughts on upgrading. I love the 388 as it is. Some little part of me wishes it was a little more like it's bigger brothers with wide...

There is also a posting for a 388 on ebay right now with this description: "Professionally re-calibrated Tascam 388. This Tech has eliminated the polar electrolytics from the channel strip chains and utilized ?0VDC offset FET's to achieve massive upgrade in the noise floor and "breathability" of the...

Hoping someone may be able to help with a small issue. The fourth channel on my 388 is not producing sound during mixing. I can listen to it while recording but when I switch over to RMX I'm getting nothing. I have some replacement channel strips, but is there a way to find out what's wrong with thi...
