I love mine (nt1.) I have a couple condensers that are more than twice the price, that sit on the shelf more often than not.
Granted,, my nt1 did die on me,, but I sent it to rode, and they sent it right back. Good as new. That was a couple years ago.. and it's still tick'n

Re: balanced/unbalanced advice
Having one short unbalanced cable is better than having multiple. Use as many balanced lines as you can. A couple of short unbalanced lines shouldn't introduce much noise, especially if you keep them away from power cables and such. You should set up two different signal paths, one with as many unba...

Re: A/D Quality
The MOTU 828mkII has 2 mic inputs and 6(?) line inputs. You should have the grace 101 outputs going into line inputs on the 828. The line inputs shouldn't have a gain dial. If they have a trim dial,, set that to Zero.. or normal.. and adjust the gain at the 101. If the grace doesn't inprove your sou...

Re: Rehearsing in a storage facility?
My friends have a recording studio / practice space set up in a storage unit. They run the power from accross the way, and have totally insulated & sound treated the space. I have a strat that has a crack inside the cut-out from a few drastic temp changes. My bassman stays in a cold basement most of...

Re: RNC as auxillary effect?
On page 13 of the manual, it talks about the insert points. The RNC also has these same insert points. Use a TRS cable to connect the two points. This will give you compression on just the one channel. As for groups: use an auxilary out put and Auxilary input (or even an unused channel.) There are p...

You can do this with Vegas 4, but my computer (1.4 AMD / 512sdram) is not able to do this while recording.

I'm using Vegas 4 and I love it. It's so easy to learn too.

There is one default option (input monitoring = listen to fx in real time) that most of us users had to turn off because we don't have super computers (yet)

Re: layla20 slowing audio when I and O being used
So the music being played back is at half speed? Try locking the sample rate of the Layla to whatever sample rate you are recording (44.1 or 48) Have you downloaded the latest drivers from www.echoaudio.com ? Turn off all windows' sounds too (they are very lofi - 11khz - and will screw with the Layl...

Re: Layla 24 upgrade is a downgrade?!
One other reason to stick with the newer drivers:
If the program you are using can take advantage of the ASIO drivers, (available in the newest echo drivers) use them. I'm using Vegas 4, and switching vegas to use the ASIO drivers has helped me with some glitches.

Re: Layla 24 upgrade is a downgrade?!
I recently upgraded to (2) Layla 24s from (2) layla 20s. When I was using the 20s,, I had already upgraded to the newest drivers (sounds like you didn't) and was used to the new lay-out. The Input faders are still there,, but they are a little knob - i think? (I'm at work.) Anyway, it's better that ...

20/48 + 24/96 recording?
I have both the Layla 20/48 and the Layla 24/96. I'm using Vegas 4 (the best) If I record at 24/96... what is happening to the files coming from the 20/48 layla? are they being resampled? Is the file size larger than it should be? - - also - - I was also having some sync problems with the recorded w...
