Get a rack mount case and a rack mount shelf (maybe even a slide out tray?) You'll have to come up with some insulation / foam to dampen sound, and a way to keep it ventilated. This is pretty sweet: http://www.custom-consoles.com/isobox-studio.php Remember in the Eighties, when every one had their h...

I got my first figure 8 mic about a month ago. I remember learning about M/S a while back, but thought it was something those crazy orchestra guys used. It totally blew my mind!

Alright, I got a E602 on ebay for $80, and put it up against my D112. Holy sh!t - I don't think I'll ever reach for the D112 again. It's so much tighter, and there's a low end thud that I used to spend hours trying to get through EQ / plug-in trickery.

I usually take an out from the bass head if there is one, and stick a condenser out in front of the cab a little ways. Blend as needed.

Run the bass through a small tube guitar amp and crank it up. Dynamic or ribbon up close. I love that on drum and bass stuff.

The figure 8 pattern is a god send some times. When the drummer has his hi-hat close to the snare, you can put a figure 8 mic right next to the hi-hat, aimed down at the snare. There's way less hat bleed that way.

Gates on toms is a necessary evil for everyone at some point too.

I think you might be talking about a 6db threshold?

In that case, everything over -6db will be reduced either 2:1 or 10:1. If you don't have much going on over -6db, you won't be able to hear much of a difference.

If you set that threshold a little lower, you might hear more of a difference.

I have two Echo Layla 24's (second gen) They each need their own PCI card and don't have any mic pres, but you can pick them up cheap on ebay, they sound great, and you'll have 16 input channels. Then its just a matter of finding an old mixing desk with channel outs. The set up isn't portable, but i...

Nice. I have a mono 6 channel Neptune mixer. Used the preamps for drums a lot. They have some sort of limiting built in, when cranked up.

I found out that it was built here in Portland, OR.

How much did you pay for it?

If you're talking about mastering, then you would apply some EQ / compression on the main mix down channel... as needed.

If some of the tracks need individule EQ or what not, apply some effects to just those channels.

Adding the SSL to all 20 channels would probably slow down your computer.

I got a BCF 2000 too. Using Sony Vegas. I was able to make pushing down on the 'pan knob' arm for recording. Having issues though. When I move the fader with the mouse, it loses sink with the physical fader. I have to wave the BCF's fader around to re-sync it. At some point, I realized that if I hov...

Well, there's this guy named Opie who hangs out at Duff's Garage. He makes his own line of tube amps / gear called OpieLux or something close to that. Not sure how to get ahold of him, but he's the best... haha. Sorry.

Well.. I've been using vegas software for the past 4 years(audio recording.) I love it. I've been trying to play around with pro-tools more, but it just doesn't do it for me. In vegas, you can line up an mp3 next to a high def wav file with out having to resample anything. Same with video. Sony boug...

Who he's mixing is not important...

Good luck Slider... I'd be scared too! Take your monitor speakers with you, or maybe just make a compilation CD of stuff you're used to hearing.
