Question about capacitor
Hey everyone, I had a question. I'm recapping some of my input modules on my console, and ran across a a few caps that don't seem to have a positive or negative. Most all of them have the negative side labeled, and the spot on the PCB where they go looks like this -) |- However, these other ones, al...

A very tricky situation; lessons already learned
Hey everyone, this is what you might call "part 1" of a 2 part discussion. The 2nd part I'll post later down the road. Anyway, I've gotten myself into a tricky situation. Here goes: A band came to me a while ago interested in recording about 10 songs. I checked out their existing demo (very briefly)...

Shrink tubing for custom snakes
Hey everyone, I'm in the process of cutting up an old, damaged 100' 12 channel stage snake and changing it to several studio patch snakes (1/4 inch balanced). The individual cables inside the outer black rubber have the traditional "blue metallic foil", and i'll need to use heat shrink tubing to cov...

D1000E / Dynamic mic problem
Hello fellow tape oppers, I have an old AKG D1000E. Although it works, it has some issues. It sounds similar to the "telephone effect" people want on their songs. In addition, at high SPL, it just gives nasty distortion. I use this mic for special vocal effects (lower spl), so all is not lost. Howev...

It's been like that since I've owned it (3 yrs). I think the guys before me babied it. They also cleaned it up for me, there was polish on the wood when I bought it. Anyway, it's on ebay now. Time to get a steal on it... http://www.ebay.com/itm/290774514030?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1...

FS: 80's RAMSA WR-T820 Excellent Condition
Hey everyone, I have for sale my old console. It's a RAMSA WR-T820. You won't find another one in this condition. I'm the 2nd owner. EVERYTHING on this board works perfectly, except sometimes if you hit the master buss too hard, the R needle will stick. (just tap it and it goes back). There's not ev...

I have some updates. I noticed that when I plug a guitar or bass into a DI and then into the console, the same weird noise appears. This made me think it could be RF interference. (at least part of the problem). Running a guitar amp off the same circuit as the console does not help, and this problem...

Thanks for the responses. What you were saying makes total sense. We were thinking that the grounding was bad, in addition to some machinery causing the issue. The building is in an industrial section of the city, so I bet there's some machinery close by causing the strange sound. I don't notice thi...

Annoying and strange buzz (sound clip provided)
Hey everyone, I recently moved my gear into a new building, and have been having issues with a strange buzz/hum with the guitar/bass amps. It sounds almost like the old tesla coils you'd see on TV shows. In addition, the ground hum appears to be louder than normal. I've tried everything: ground lift...

Hey fellow tape-oppers, I have an old 688 that I'm selling. I figured I'd let yall have the first shot at it before it goes on ebay. Everything on this machine works as it should, however, there is noise/hiss on channels 1/2 (from the mic input). This noise is also audible when mixing (coming off th...
