Re: Parts for Tascam 244
i bought a new pinch roller from Athan on ebay or Reverb. Thing is they use a proprietary blend so you HAVE to use their cleaner on it, barring that they have a great reputation.

Re: Cheap Spring Reverb Solution Volume IV - Budget Consumer Equipment (FOSTEX 3180)
i'm using a 1980 Roland RV-100 (same as the Boss RX-100, just re-badged), it's a nice unit and is quiet. i like it a lot better than the Fostex 3180 i used to own.

Re: Deluxe Yankee Hotel- a production master class
i will have to check that out, it is a fantastic album, definitely a seminal record of that time/band. personally i think Jay Bennett is the unsung hero of that album even though he was vilified in the documentary "i am trying to break your heart". he was kicked out of the band and they never sounde...

Re: How would you cop this bass sound?
any old school flat is gonna have the "Dead" E string, here's the thing, play them for a week and all the strings are "dead" as well (they'll all match). that's the whole flat sound, no sustain, just bass and low mids punching through. sure you can roll off treble but you can't kill that sustain unl...

Re: How would you cop this bass sound?
those are very bright and "modern" sounding. ghs are the cheapest of the old school variety if you want to get some to A/B them. the great thing about flatwounds is even though they are expensive you buy them 1 time and that's it for life. they last forever and mellow and age like a fine wine. any f...

Re: How would you cop this bass sound?
if you go flats choose Labella, Pyramid, or GHS. Those are the "Old school" sounding flats. Anything is either too bright/modern (D'addario chromes, Dunlop, Thomastik, DR, Fender) or made of different material and doesn't sound the Same (Rotosound uses Monel, not Nickel or Steel).

Re: How would you cop this bass sound?
precision bass, flatwounds, foam mute at the bridge hofner bass, flatwounds, no need for mute these don't have much sustain jazz bass, front pickup only, flatwounds, foam mute at bridge. go direct with a passive DI with a transformer. make sure the flats are old and seasoned, new flats won't sounds ...

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....
seems all the musicians are back to being broke again, the stimulus and unemployment checks have long since dried up. my gear on reverb which is listed for bargain prices has sat for months. hopefully things will turn around soon

Re: My poor hears are getting old
Suggestions: 1. Get a listening test done by a doctor. Their equipment does not go much past 8K, but that is ok to find really bad issues. 2. Do a test at home for the extended range, above 8K. See how loud you need a frequency to be for you to hear it clearly. 3. Once you find where the issues are...

Re: FS: TASCAM TSR-8 & SOUNDTRACS TOPAZ 8
tape is at an all time high price wise, you can likely sell this for a fortune on Reverb in the condition its in. Just charge 200 for shipping and make sure to buy double walled boxes (Go to Uhaul, they are quality and cheap), then double box it (Small box for unit, then fill larger box with peanuts...

1965 Hofner 500/2 Club Bass - I've wanted one of these for a while, i owned the Violin "Beetle" bass but i'm not a big beetles or macca fan and was tired of the Paul worship/questions that came everytime i played it. This model is way more comfortable and ergonomic for playing seated or standing, si...
