Thank you for Tom Wilson and Nate Smith

I had no idea about Tom Wilson, i really enjoyed reading that and then doing the deep dive online afterwards to learn more. Nate Smith i am a massive fan of, the dude is one of the baddest drummers out there for jazz/funk/soul stuff, bad to the bone, james brown would have loved him. It was a great ...

Re: The Tascam 238 rocks.

wow! Great to know. Where is he? I've got a working 238 here but it could use a tune up. Just wondering if shipping will make it prohibitive. NYC. that included shipping BTW. he re-did my 122mkIII as well (same direct drive and same runaway capstan speed caps). He sent a full report on what was don...

Re: The Tascam 238 rocks.

Reviving this thread. I bought a broken 238 and sent it to Denis and 238pro.net and had him restore it (about 350$ US) and it’s working like a dream now. Speed issue caps have been replaced, fully aligned, speed calibrated, etc etc. I’ve got it paired with a Sound Workshop 1280B and it’s sounding ex...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Picked up a 1958 Hammond M-3 organ. Super stoked!!! I got some oil for it, and once that is in, I can go through it and see if it needs any repairs. It looks mint. One previous owner, sat in her living room for decades. She passed, her son had to get rid of it. The oil cost me more than the organ, ...

Re: vinyl collecting ( and surrounding planetary atmosphere )

that badbadnotgood III record is off the f'ing chain. great record and band. IV is excellent as well, you should purchase that if you don't already have it. those canadian kids are the future of jazz/hip-hop instrumental music.

Re: No more gearslutz

Re: Should it stay or should it go?

due to everyone getting COVID stimulus checks and the ususally used gear market place jump, prices on vintage (anything pre 2000) is at an all time high. you could likely liquidate those units (even if the gear is working or not) and buy yourself a luxury sedan. you should think about listing it all...

Re: vinyl collecting ( and surrounding planetary atmosphere )

i've owned a decent amount of sescom gear. it's alright, i mean it's durable and works great and that is the focus of their gear. middle of the road sound/tone but durable and built for high traffic environments like touring or living in a venue.
