If it looks like a 4 pin amphenol connector, only smaller, I've seen that type on a lot of the older cheap Japanese mics, like Lafayette, etc.

Many times you can find these old mics on eBay for dirt cheap and get the connector that way.

Surprised no one mentioned a cable tester yet. The ebtech one is great, though behringer's exact copy of same (besides the fact that all proceeds go to the devil) is fine too. Ptouch Rane balance buddy also indispensable for interfacing consumer gear, dj mixers, eqs, etc. It is passive, transformer ...

Some people's voices just have more push in one direction than another. If it sounds good, it is good. Really? If you can hear a difference who am I to say you can't? But is there any objective basis for this? I've seen Wes Dooley recommend flipping the phase when recording with the negative side o...

I know you already kinda politely asked for no more re-designs... however I have a hard time writing about the points I'm trying to make and not just taking the 5 minutes in Photoshop to throw it together. My thought is the concept is great! But the execution looks a little cheap. 1 -the U seems ext...

Have you considered something other than a digital unit? Do you have a spare room you might be able to set up as a chamber? How about a DIY plate? They both have their downsides, notably space and ambient noise issues. However the upside is they'll likely sound far better, more natural at least, and...

Yep, Levon was for real.

I don't understand, how did I never make the time to get up to one of the Midnight Rambles?

Depressing.

It's so easy to take things (and people) for granted, until they're not there anymore.

Judging anyone by their gear is silly and closed-minded and only really serves to limit your experience. Very handy for insecure people too afraid to delve too deeply into their experiences though. Putting on some uniform (which could be spraypainted pedals or Dumble amps or anything really) to try ...

Yeah realistically all they can do is ask you to cease and decist (take it down). It would be near impossible to prove any damages (and likely cost more than they'd even hope to recover anyway); moreover, you've made a reasonable effort to get in touch AND you've already been granted permission to u...

To me, checking both in mono and in bandwidth-limited situations are both valuable but don't have to be the same thing. I always check on the mains, the avantones and my Macbook speakers, pretty much in that order of importance. I tend to balance/eq in mono and I'll make adjustments there too but th...

I do know on certain macs even with multiple ports, they're all on the same FireWire bus (hey, who knew the w was capitalized too! Autocorrect). Not sure that yours is that way or not but it's one thing to check out. Also if you operate one device at 400 I'm pretty sure (if it's indeed the same bus)...

The RE11 is the one that seems to stand out as sounding the most different of the 4. In general I think of the sound of these mics as being a huge wide smooth bulge in the midrange, often with a fairly extended but sweet top end. The RE11s I've run across always seem to give the impression that that...

The RE10 however is basically an RE15. The RE11 and RE16 are close cousins For some odd reason, I was thinking that the re10 was a not-quite-up-to-spec re15, the 10 being originally priced lower for this reason, like stale baked goods, Likewise the 11 and the 16. Does this ring a bell at all? Yeah,...

EV's model names have been weird and (at least seemingly) arbitrary from the beginning. For example: RE20 = PL20 (along with a bunch of other mics where the RE and PL models differed only in paint color) BUT then, the PL10 is not at all an RE10. The RE10 however is basically an RE15. The RE11 and RE...

Yeah, definitely don't try it in different places or anything. I'm sure if it doesn't sound good it's either that the mic is broken or...perhaps you've not yet acquired enough of the gear that your favorite producers use to get good sounds? Don't listen to what other people say; it's 99% gear and on...
