Re: moving from huge live room to small one

sadly, no garage. and i'm in a very dense part of town - south philly. this house is unique though, as it's free standing. can prob end up with a 300ish sq ft drum room and 200ish sq ft dead/amp room. not too bad, but not the 1000 sq ft room i've had for the last 12 years

Re: moving from huge live room to small one

ceiling is about 8-8.5 ft high. not too rough, but yeah, the quotes i'm getting are crazy. i think i'm gonna just move the furnace and water heater and get volume that way. not idea, but i think i can get a decent sized live room out of it

Re: moving from huge live room to small one

yeah, i'm thinking use the rest of the space as a chamber might be cool.

as to neighbors, i'm soundproofing properly and the performance spaces will all be in the basement. it's a decent sized house, and fortunately stand alone - no shared walls (unusual for south philly).

moving from huge live room to small one

anyone go through this change? i'm pretty over my sub-divided warehouse space and am looking to move the studio to a house i just bought. basement is a decent size - around 500 sq ft, but far smaller than my current live room - 1000 sq ft with 11 ft ceilings. contemplating some crazy things - baseme...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

a pair of Chandler Little Devil mic pres - loving them so far. only used on two sessions - guitars last weekend, kick and guitar this weekend. Haven't noticed the "bright" switch doing much, but maybe the feedback knob being cranked negates the boost a bit? Beyerdynamic D71c kick mic. pretty damn cl...

Re: Pre-Amps Rec's for Instruments and Mics?

only thing i can think of worth a damn at that price point would be the electro harmonix 12AY7 pre. there are two on reverb now for $200 or less. just don't use the 1/4" output.

Beyerdynamic D71C thoughts?

curious how this compares to a Beta 91. I have tried many a kick drum mics and have settled for the Beta 91 mostly these days, but the top end always feels a little plastic-y to me. anyone compared this Beyer offering?

Re: Sytek no longer making the MPX 4aii?

i have one stock unit and another with BB on channels 3&4. i use the stock channels, typically - often ribbon mic duty for overheads and guitars.
also used for general quiet things or if i'm out of other options/feeling lazy. burr brown channels i use for bottom tom mics, usually.

sound effect libraries - good forums for second hand?

a new first for me - doing sound for a friend's animated short. going to need explosions and possibly some goofy cartoon noises. have found plenty of resources online for buying these, but hoping there might be a forum somewhere that has folks selling their unused stuff. any of you familiar with thi...

Re: UAD 3 Plugins Pack - Which would you choose?

the ocean way is cool, but i feel kind of a one trick pony and you don't always need/use it. if you really want the transient designer, i would get it from plugin alliance - they have crazy sales all the time. i know the code is different, but it works just fine. also there are other options out the...

Re: tell me about your unusual recording spaces

haha. wow, quite a thread but def wanna check it out. i don't have the space for that, but this property is stand alone, so hoping to do whatever i am doing inside the exisiting house - may include ripping up floors/digging basements down, etc. i'm a drummer and i record stupidly loud bands.

Re: tell me about your unusual recording spaces

i don't have a commercial studio. But i'm on a bass forum and a guy on there in seattle bought a pre-fab unit that he put in has backyard. it's a shed, but it's way too big to be called that. he then soundproofed it himself and had contractors do electrical and an acoustic door, as a drummer he did...

tell me about your unusual recording spaces

i'm pretty over the subdivided warehouse i've called home for my studio for 12 years. looking intensely around Philly and suburbs and the only spot i found that was what i was looking for was impossible to get financing for. i'm likely going to buy a house and do some pretty wild renovations to get ...
