Re: Tracking bands without a console is a PITA!

just read the post specifically about their monitoring. well, if your comp is decent, you shouldn't even have to use it. i don't know your computer or your track count, but I'd bet you can get prett low latency monitoring. I use 7msec all the time and have never had a band say a thing about it.

Re: Tracking bands without a console is a PITA!

I had to learn pretty quick cuz my Ghost died mid session on me like 12 years ago. It took me a couple months to really get the hang of it, but it gets easy. The computer is much more flexible than any console. Admittedly, I'm unfamiliar with focusrite's software but it seems every interface has a z...

Now that’s a dream, a 55” monitor. My Mac chokes if I try to run a second monitor. When it dies def going to run a tv for a monitor. I’m too old for this stuff.
Comically it is the one thing almost every client notices and comments on! They could give a shit about my fancy hardware!

Re: monitors

I really had no complaints about either setup. the JW mod seemed to help with some noise. Kinda wish I sent him the 535 I have as it offers two different outputs and some on/off toggling of each - pretty sure he charges the same amount for both. I just went with the more powerful one. I only jumped ...

Re: monitors

DYN LYD 48 with their 9S sub as I wasn't getting enough volume out of it when it went thru sonarworks. These replaced my B&W Matrix 805 with their sub (maybe ASW 2500? i'm forgetting the model). and they were powered by a Jim Williams modded Adcom 545. I still have them, actually have two pairs of 8...

Re: What preamps are y'all liking these days?

I should add, I did a shootout not so long ago on distorted guitar with a bunch of my different pres (chandler, capi, hairball, jlm, etc) and I was shocked by how damn close all my pres sounded. I was debating selling my UA 2018 - was testing it against the Audioscape V108 and decided to toss in som...

Re: SDCs for Choir & Orchestra & Audience recordings (sennheiser 80xx)

+1 for hypercardioids! I’ve been recording spoken performances for a few years now and I have used Jospehson c42s, Beyer MC930s, Shure KSM137s and Oktava MK012s. And the best of the bunch are the Oktavas with hypercardipid caps! I have to place them fairly low, close to the audience and either next ...

Re: tips for mixing a live recording - using gates etc

really depends on the vocal performance. i just had to mix a live record where the singer was quite animated and jumping around with his handheld. that had to be done manually or i was dead in the water. if someone is a bit more stationary and the bleed is more consistent, izotope RX might help. for...

Re: Sub or bigger nearfields?

My last setup was a pair of B&W 805s powered by a Jim Williams modded adcom 545 and some stupidly overpowered B&W sub (ASW 1000 or something? It was 700 watts). For $1k and what you get selling your genelecs I’d bet you’d have money leftover. I switched to Dynaudio LYD 48 and a matching sub. I do li...

Re: DACHMAN U87 kit

for an extra $100 you can buy the serrano 87 already assembled. i haven't tried the Dachman, but the Serrano is awesome! you can also find Beesneez used often for $500 or so. No pad or other patterns, but they make awesome mics! I recently used a Beesneez u67. Granted it was merely just a far room ...

also since this is about kick mics, since this thread started some years ago, the Alien 8 has come out and it rules! Don't plan on using my Beta 91A or Beyer D71C anytime soon.

Re: "On kicks with different mics like ya do"

just jumping back on this recently resuscitated thread to state that I have since gotten 3 Beta 181s and I want more. stomp all over the wimpy and thin ATM450s. still wanna compare them to e22s. lent one to a friend who was tracking at Electrical recently, but he ran out of time to compare them. he ...
