What do I gain with a reamping device?
My current way of reamping myself is to use a Boss DD6 to split my signal, one portion of the signal goes to an amp (just to hear myself) and the other portion goes into the DI of my Sebatron pre, then into PT. Once the track is recorded, I send the DI'd track to one of the outputs of my Delta 1010 ...

Subkick question
This may be a stupid question, but I've experimented for a bit and tried to find an answer online to no avail. So here goes... I have an old pair of Event Project Studio 6's, and I thought I'd try one in front of the kick as a subkick. I have used guitar speaker cabs as subkicks before, but never a ...

Funny quote from about.com iTune/iPod guide
While trying to figure out how to normalize a playlist on an iPod for party purposes, I stumbled on this quick guide. The first sentence made me smile. "Because songs are recorded at different volumes and with different technologies, the volume that they play back at on the iPod can be different." h...

Thanks for the tutorial link! I've had REW for awhile now, but hadn't used it yet because I kept having issues when calibrating it. Your tutorial helped a lot in that regard! However, I may have calibrated something incorrectly. My graph doesn't look too strange, but the dB reading on the left side ...

Incorrect dB settings in REW?
I think I'm doing something wrong when using REW. Although I've calibrated it using my Radioshack SPL meter, and calibrated my audio interface, my graphs dB reading on the side is much higher than all tutorials I've watched/read. Am I correct in my assumption that I've set something up wrong? Link b...

Top 5 snare drums for recording that are readily available?
I've seen a lot of people extolling the virtues of Black Beauties, Supraphonics, and Acrolites for recording purposes. I'm due for a new snare, as mine is basically bottom of the barrel. I am not a drummer, but I've been playing drums (poorly) for a couple years now. After upgrading my crash, it's b...

Question: Bob Golds room calculator
Has anyone used this calculator? http://www.bobgolds.com/Mode/RoomModes.htm I'm trying to understand what it's telling me about my room dimensions, but it's fairly technical. Near the bottom of the page, it shows this (I've added the X in place of numbers): "Frequency Regions: - No modal boost: Xhz ...

Renting monitors
I suppose this could go in the People/Places/Things area, but I wasn't sure. I'm looking to replace my current monitors, but I'd like to try out different monitors at my place, rather than a store. Specifically, I'm looking at the Focal Solo6 Be. My question: What places in the Seattle area can I re...

First Foo Fighters album info?
Does anyone have any links or info regarding the recording process of the first Foo Fighters album? In my opinion, it's their best album, and I really enjoy the sounds they got. Google and the usual sources have provided a little info, but not much regarding the actual recording techniques used. If ...

Hey there,
I'd be interested in this, if you still have it. Tried PM'ing you, but not sure it went though, as I don't see it in my Sentbox.

Delayed signal processing with stereo width plugin
Hey guys, So my band is doing some pre-production, and among other mics we had to throw up a single dynamic for the OH mic. Does not sound good at all, but it's better than no OH. When messing around with it in PT's, I decided to copy the track and pan them 100% left and right. I then delayed one si...

Surfer Blood and inexpensive recording
http://pitchfork.com/news/36919-rising-surfer-blood/ Since I really like this album, I was excited to read this. From the link above, regarding their debut album Astro Coast: "...We went into a studio and recorded some drum and some bass tracks. I was disappointed with the way the engineer was appr...
