Re: recording school
I too went to CRAS and loved every minute of it. My knowlege of recording was slim to none going into CRAS and I felt I came out with a very good grasp on the whole recording thing. Basically you get out of it what you put into it. I was one of those people that took advantage of the school being op...

Re: Full Sail did it again!
I should stop advertising the fact that I'm an audio school grad on this board because they have such a negative image here, but I can't say enough good things about the education I got at The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Arizona. If I could have interned anywhere around where I am...

Re: anyone ever use these?
We have a few of their tube mics. We don't ever go a session without using them on something. They get a lot of use on vocals, and guitar and bass cabs at my studio. Very nice mics for the price.

I need a better bass DI
I don't really like the sounds I'm getting with my bass DI so I'm looking to get something a little better. What are y'alls opinions? Probably don't want to spend more than a couple hundred on it. The problem with mine is it's pretty noisy. I didn't really notice it much until recently so maybe it j...

I love the D12
I had to write this after checking out the "I hate the D112" thread. And generally speaking I haven't found a good application for the D112, although I'm sure there are circumstances that would call for it. Anyway, we very recently got a D12 at the studio I work at, and I love that mic. You can use ...

Re: where should we place this?
Ethan, Thanks for your advice. I checked out the real traps websight. What do you think I will need for bass traps? Nunber, size, placement, etc.? I am thinking of putting some Auralex on the side and front walls. Would a couple of those mini realtraps put in the back corners be good enough? The doo...

where should we place this?
We are in the process of selling our old console and have purchased a new one. We are thinking of changing our setup a bit as far as where we place everything. Our room is roughly 19' by 12', but not quite an exact rectangle. The north and west walls are drywall and the south and east are brick. The...

Re: Kick Drum sounds, yo......
Where do you all tend to use the M88, on the inside or outside. I've been thinking about picking one up. I have used them before but don't really recall where we miced with it in the kick. Also I didn't really know much of what I was listening for. I was pretty new to recording when I had my experie...

Re: SSL...?
Stands for Solid State Logic, a company based in Oxford, England. They are a completely different company from Neve. Pretty much every major studio in LA and New York has at least one of these. A new J series can run you up to and above $1 million dollars. I recently visited a friend at the studio h...

Re: CRAS student here
I too went to CRAS, and I've gotta say it was the best experience of my life. I have since moved beck home and am engineering at a local studio. It is a pretty sweet deal when you can do what you love and get paid for it. Good luck to you on your way. CRAS will definately send you in the right direc...

Re: Favorite home recordings?
Iron And Wine, Iron And Wine, Iron And Wine. F'in beautiful songs. Love that album. Also the early Beck home recordings. And I think the Hayden's Everything I Long For is a home recording. At least it sounds that way. Great album.
