Sonny Tripp

We have lots of recordings on our Band Camp page.
The "Shape Up" and "Routes" EPs were recorded on the Tascam 388 (live off the floor, with vocals overdubbed afterwards)
"Distractions" and "You May Delay..." were both recorded on a Fostex Model 80 8 track 1/4" machine.

Indiepool in Canada is a great company, and they offer all sorts of great packaging. I'm not sure what their shipping prices would be to the States, but I was always happy when dealing with them.

I didn't play around much with the BIAS levels on the bottom of the unit, but it did help out a little. Just turn the levels up, and you should have some luck. The thing that helped me out the most with my Model 80 was putting some plastic on the reel hub before putting the reel on, so that the tape...

My band Sonny Tripp has recorded a few EPs with a 388. We've also used a Fostex Model 80 on some other recordings. Both recorders sound great, but have very different characteristics!

We recorded a new EP last month, which you can stream or download at: http://sonnytripp.bandcamp.com/album/shape-up Again, we used the same setup that I posted before, even though this one is a lot less rocking. Everything was recorded on the 388, mostly all live, and then imported to Cubase where t...

You're right about the doubling. I pretty much always double my vocals. There's also a little slap back delay on there as well. The mic is a Behringer C-1. It was given to me as a Christmas gift a few years ago, but I love how it sounds on vocals (and only on vocals...!)

For the Sonny Tripp recordings: We recorded all the music live off the floor, in my tiny house. It was really loud, but by facing all of the amps away from the drums, mic bleed wasn't a problem whatsoever. Afterwards, we redid a few guitar tracks, but I think the sound stayed pretty consistent. The...

The Wikipedia article on the album has lots of technical info regarding the recording. It is all Dave Grohl, aside from one guitar part, and it was recorded very quickly on 16 track tape

The DBX was off. I don't like how it sounds, and since we were recording loud instruments, hiss wasn't a problem at all.

Some Tascam 388 recordings

My band just recorded a new EP on the 388: http://sonnytripp.bandcamp.com We record live off the floor, re-record a guitar track here or there, then dump everything to the computer to add vocals. The other EPs were done on a Fostex Model 80 I also did a cover of Weezer's Green Album for fun a while ...

I had already tried that, but thanks a lot for the help.

Last night when I was playing around with the 388, it just started working perfectly. So at least I know it's not BROKEN, and it's probably just a loose something somewhere... Now to find out which of the 14000000 parts it could be

Tascam 388 - No sound in Right Channel (but works in mono!?)

I wrote this in the 388 thread, but no one replied. I'm hoping that I may get a little more traffic here... Sorry for the repetition. I just got a 388, and it seems to be working fine except: There is no Right Channel output happening on my 388. Whether it's headphones of Monitors, there is no sound...
