Re: Is this sacrilege?
Sure, it would be easy to just "listen" to the mixes to see how they were done  I think the stereo version is great because it is hard panning and such, not really a more modern use of stereo. I imagine they were going for "what if this were mixed in stereo at the time". The elements have the s...

Is this sacrilege?
I'm listening to the CD that has both the mono and recently mixed versions of "Pet Sounds". I really like the newer stereo mixes better. Should I feel dirty? Mark Linett (with Brian's supervision) did a stellar job to make the stereo mix and not screw up the feel of the whole thing. Anyone know if t...

Re: Is this a good deal (drum kit)?
I would go for it, especially if you think it is cool--
It sounds like a great value, and fitting for a beginner, as it seems straight forward and is a pretty complete set.

Re: Yesterday
One thing that might help you with your "pushing the record button" problem is the nifty Shuttle Pro and a USB extension cable. I have about 20' of usb cable on the Shuttle Pro and it works. The Shuttle Pro is a flounder-looking device with a shuttle wheel and a bunch of buttons that are programmabl...

Holy carp-
Do a search in this forum and you will find many a thread that savages Behringer mixers. I wouldn't touch one with a ten-foot pole-

Re: Ringo and the slow crash
I've heard that the Fairchild 660 (right number?) was used a lot on Ringo's drums. A lot of compression on a drum crash would indeed squash the peak and cause the decay of the cymbal to smooth out.

Re: mixing backing vocals/harmonies?
Like cgarges said, de-ess. The consonants are what give vocals direction, so take some of that away from the backups, so they don't compete with the lead vocal phrasing-wise. More verb/early reflections on the backups can help place them in the background. funny- if you listen to Richard Carpenter's...

Re: Hedwig
I live in Cincinnati, where the Ensemble Theater performed Hedwig for a couple of runs. I actually was involved a bit, filling in on bass for a couple of shows. I have to say that I thought the movie was lackluster, music-wise. The songs are good, but I think the performances were too relaxed (relat...

If you are thinking strobe tuner, look into a Peterson tuner. It is a digital virtual strobe tuner for less than $200.

Re: cubase sx install hell!
Contact the seller-- I had the same problem when I bought SX. It was not until someone told me to look on the packaging that I could install the program. There was some logistical SNAFU on Steinberg's part with the serial #'s. The seller would have to have the right number if he used the program. PC

$2000?
If you buy an 002 Rack for about $1300, the software is included. I recently switched from Cubase to PT, and appreciated the economy. I had a Motu 896 (nice unit) which went for $1200, and Cubase SX, which goes for 6 or 7 hundred bucks.
Financially, Pro Tools is a winner--
