I like my D5s and feel obligated to mention the outstanding customer service for at least the next few times I see them mentioned.

these are pretty great for the money... http://www.equatoraudio.com/D5-Coaxial-Studio-Monitors-p/d5.htm Yes they are. I just got a pair. Also, customer service is pretty stellar. In short, I can hear things/problems that weren't evident with the mackies. I think the Mackies flattered the mids or so...

Everything sold but the Victoria. I'm fine with that. It's an awesome amp.

Ah yes, I'm not familiar with the MR5s, never worked with those. Acoustics is a linear phenomenon, meaning that peaks/nulls are the same in proportion to the volume. But, listening at very soft volumes is a great tool for getting better balances overall. MR5s are probably good for gamers or somethi...

I've found that how mixes "translate" is at least as much a function of the room they are in, than of the speakers themselves. To choose a very common, real world example, for instance, if the room has a +10dB peak at (say) 75Hz and a -15dB null at (say) 70Hz, then it's gonna be hard to get the kic...

How do Event Opals translate?

Apologies if this has been covered. I've read a lot of reviews and posts concerning how great the Opals sound, but I've only seen it mentioned once as to how mixing on them translates to the real world. If any owners have an opinion on this, it would be appreciated. I have a cheap pair of Mackies th...

Film industry field recorders from the 60s and 70s?

I've been watching old 60s and 70s movie trailers on youtube and digging the overall sound of the era. The trailer for Dr. Strangelove is a good example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gXY3kuDvSU This got me to wondering what were the standard field recorders and mics from the era. Nagra for field ...

Be kind to your future fans and get the AC30!

Valvetronics or whatever are not horrible for what they are but they will not do the same for you as an AC30 at a cheaper price. They hurt my ears. There, I said it. You will get what you pay for. AC30s are great. With a Ric? I think that's been tested. ;) I like AC15s. Also, it sometimes proves che...

Re: foam baffles around cymbals?

I think I saw this in a past issue of TapeOp ... the engineer put semicircular foam baffles around the cymbals, not touching them, to keep the cymbals out of the room mics. Anyone know who the engineer is, or have a photo? I'm trying to devise something similar. no, but this reminds me of a setup I...

After typing all that I found this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y651C7aNXRc The mixer looks similar to the Series 1 but not quite the same. It might also be an Alice. They were a UK company that made mixers for the broadcast industry. The plot thickens. Cool, thanks. It's that meter section on ...

Lee Perry Soundcraft?

Does anyone know what model of Soundcraft Lee Scratch Perry used? I tried looking into this awhile back and couldn't match the one blurry
picture I found to anything. I think maybe it looked like a 200, but the white logo on the right hand side didn't exactly match.

I love D-Verb.

FYI Sometimes you just need to put a lowpass filter with "harsh" reverbs on the insert before the reverb, so no top end goes into it.

Cheers
I like "Dark Plate" a lot. I'll try the low pass before instead of after. makes sense.
