Re: Can Sampled Drums Ever Sound Real?
to resurrect... first off, most albums nowadays just sound fake anyways..especially radio metal, because the producers use samples and triggersfor kick and snare. I would get BFD, and juse use the kick and snare from it. Then get 2 condensors for overheads and a hi hat mic of your choice. buy a hi h...

Re: Favorite ways to track a Jazz bass
jive? you mean too funky? I have heard them rule in rock environments (pearl jam) metal..(god forbid) so i think they are a little more versatile then a P. Ps are killer basses too though, but i guess to have "studio standard" you may need both?

Re: Favorite ways to track a Jazz bass
cool stuff....I am looking to get a really nice pick tone, I belive you can use a jazz in metal too, even though the P is more popular. I think the Jazz is a more versatile instrument, so im real interested in seeing how everybody likes to track it...I love the nice growly tone you can get out of it...

Favorite ways to track a Jazz bass
Yes, finally got an american highway 1 jazz bass, which i like more then the regular ones because they are lighter, and have the original classic pickups. Opinions? I have been messing with it and was wondering what your favorite ways to track it are. For aggressive pick style playing to cut through...

New These Arms Are Snakes..any insider recording info?
First off..get this album..it is incredible...sounds fucking awesome.
Now, onto the bass tone..I know some line 6 delay was used, but I was wondering if anyone knows how it was engineered...it is simply one of the best bass tones I have heard recorded...awesome job.

Re: Brainstorm: reducing headphone bleed
agreed..I hear headphone bleed when i solo tracks, but it never affects the mix to me. ....so i guess i really don't mind it..and i will compress the snot out of vocals, but still can't hear any bleed in the mix...the phones barely register when im recording with a condenser (like -58 db or somethin...

Any Meters...Shit played on by "groove" Holmes.."Le Freak" by chic has a killer bassline..."under the bridge" RHCP..A really sick album with tons of nasty groove is Scofield's "A go go""...god so many...who sings that song "tighten up?"..thats the shit.

Re: screamo bands make me nuts
Lamb of God rocks...incredible screams. A real metal band. The secret there is the phrasing. It's really increbly done. A lot of these Hardcore kids (who call themselves metal by the way...its not really metal) just don't have the phrasing abilty to do it right, so it sucks. I like some tracks from ...

Re: Compressor/EQ order? (newbie Question)
I EQ after..this way, I have the sound of the compressed vocal, and I can then slot the vocal to sit in the mix better. I use EQ to get everything to sit in the mix right, and not to change the tones I record, so this way works better for me.

Re: advice on mixing Layered synths
cool ideas. Thank you all. Here is what I did: I ended up killing most of the keys. I kept a nice droning track that added a lot of nice movement, 3 of the best hooks she played, and really based the song on a looped break and big round bass line I played. I ran my modulus Flea through a tech 21 with...

Re: advice on mixing Layered synths
thanks for the tips..yeah, im going to weed out parts that don't belong..i hate a million tracks and backups. The project is pretty much a darker pop song sung by a cute asian girl. Soulful vocals, reminds me a little of portishead, but a little poppier. I threw in a looped breakbeat that we wrote o...

advice on mixing Layered synths
I am doing a track for a female singer. There are a fair amount of backup vocals. And I'm panning them around 50-50. Was wondering any hints for layering keyboards. theres around 12 tracks of keys, they make up the main instruments in the song, ang just looking for some good panning advice and EQing...
