Mike is spot-on. They're all different. From mics I have owned, I know a Neumann TLM103 and an MXL v69 and a Shure KSM 44 all have different threads. I assume with calipers and a thread gauge you could determine if they are at least standard metric sizes...

Re: Favorite NAS for audio
"Network Attached Storage" - I had to look that one up. I guess that's a thing in bigger studios? Never had the need in my little world. I just have a couple of 1Tb storage drives in my audio computer (a total of 5 drives in that PC tower, including 2x 750 Gb USB3 drives, where I can offload project...

Re: anyone working at 96k?
I do almost exclusively live location recordings, always at 96K unless I'm asked for a different sample rate (e.g. 48K specifically for video). Why would I not? Digital storage is cheap these days. I can't see a downside, other than file size.

Re: let's talk monitoring / accurate sound reproduction for mixing
I've got nothing to add here, but gonna inject my own bullshit instead. I was tracking last weekend and noticed one of my drivers for the KRK 7000's I've had for 21 years started making some "stress noise" at certain frequencies when pushed. I replaced the drivers for both monitors in 2005? 2004? T...

Re: let's talk monitoring / accurate sound reproduction for mixing
Hmm...9 -10 years since setting up the studio acoustics...hopefully the treble deficit has nothing to do with your 'personal monitors' and the passage of time resulting in attenuated higher frequencies...I am in my late sixties and I can't hear above 12 kHz now...more like 10 khz in practical listen...

Re: What happens to your / your client’s files when you die?
It does raise interesting questions (beyond the legal and financial) about what happens to a musician's work when they die...If they haven't left instructions, who will protect and preserve the body of work? Not the lawyers and accountants, I'm sure. Would we have Mozart or Vivaldi today if some stu...

I have a pair of modded Apex 205 and a pair of Rode NTR. Only the NTR get used now. Fabulous mics.

I'm with A.David.MacKinnon - only soap and mild dish detergent for my pinch rollers. Never alcohol. But then I don't own a Studer.

Re: Studio websites?
This guy is local to me. I have had a tour of his studio and I think his website does it credit.
https://www.archivemastering.com/
Pictures speak louder than words, as they say. But there is still a fair bit of technical detail about his studio.

Re: Should I rent out my mics? What to charge?
Apparently, according to a post on another audio forum, the 'standard' rate for audio equipment rentals is 3 - 4% of the full retail price per day. Prorated for longer rentals, so x 1.5 for two days, and so on. Seems to jive with the local rental places in my area.

Re: Classical Tape-Op
Quite a few classical REs hang out at the Remote Possibilities in Location Recording & Production sub-forum at Gearspace. People like Tony Faulkner and Hudson Fair, as well as 'amateurs' like me. Pretty good bunch and a lot better signal to noise ratio than most of the rest of Gearspace.
