Re: What preamps are y'all liking these days?

My sort of dark horse get-out-of-the-way preamp is the Event EMP-1. They're a bit hard to find these days but are typically under $100. They used security screws on them, so I finally bought a set of security bits to peek inside (plus one of mine had a busted IEC power plug that needed replacing). ...

Re: So I demo'ed a band ...

Interesting Band and Singer - they all seem to compete with who can play furthest behind the beat.

Re: RIP Sugar Man

He appeared to be a good guy - short illness as the reason for his death - I wonder what that means?

Re: Avid sold

Does it mean anything? Like who cares who owns Avid? Robert Scovill?

Re: RIP Gary Wright

He was a quiet force in the world - I only knew of his hit "DreamWeaver' - had no idea he was in Spooky Tooth - or that he maintained quite the career.

Quite the force to be reckoned with - I never knew of him - but now I wish I did.

Re: Cheap marshall clone

OK, I had 20 minutes to record a bit. I had done some vocals earlier, so used the mic sitting in the middle of the room. As a result, the amp is super compressed because it was hitting a Warm WA2A really hard on the way in. https://soundcloud.com/ericagner13/rawk I'm a bass player, not a guitar pla...

Re: Vocal Recording Question

(15 years old...) for the last couple of years. How'd you manage that? I told mine he wasn't allowed to turn 10, so he's had seven 9th birthdays. Ha! That made me laugh out loud. It's like kids are on a rocket to adulthood - as time goes by incredibly fast. You quote reminded me of a blues guy in S...

Re: Logic X Pro - Tempo and Audio Files

I have yet to ever see any DAW do this with any precision. You can, of course prove otherwise... I have used this function in Logic to import all sorts of tape based projects - and it generally works really well. The times I have had issues is when we haven't baked a tape - and it starts shedding a...

Re: Cheap marshall clone

I don't have any guitar amps right now over 20 watts. I gig with an 18-20 watt amp, it's fine. I have a Vox AC4 that's really fun to play, but now I'm going to fill it's spot with this: https://reverb.com/item/28685997-assembled-kits-kld-pva18-18w-high-gain-hand-wired-tube-amp-based-on-tmb-18 $240 ...

Re: Bass Plugins

I'd just try the demos and decide for myself, but I'm pretty sure I already used the demos, and like an idiot never got around to trying any of them. What DAW are you currently using? If you are on a Mac and using Logic they have bass amp and cabinet emulations that you can insert on the DI channel...

Re: Vocal Recording Question

I don't know how helpful a comment this is, but it's worth saying: perhaps you just prefer vocals on the dry side? I know that I often do. I process something and then I find it doesn't suit. And it bugs me sometimes, because, you know, I have these plugins. Some of them are expensive. I almost fee...

Re: Vocal Recording Question

I agree with the guys above. Keep using the things you think make the mix better, and skip the things that don't. ON the delay and reverb, are you inserting them, or running them on aux sends? If you're inserting them, try to put them on and aux insert fed from a send on the vocal track. It gives y...
