Re: Great records with drums low in the mix?
Probably a different direction that you are looking for. Seal's "Kiss From A Rose" seems to have the drums tucked back nicely, but still allows them to have a little punch. I always think they are too low in the mix and even a bit "soft", but always wonder how they still punch a little (soft and pun...

Re: Favorite NAS for audio
Look into TrueNAS as a free OS/GUI to turn your spare hardware into a NAS. It's very capable and stable, and also a commercial product (free for personal/home use). Can run plugins and all kind of crap from Plex to UniFi controllers and such... Runs ZFS, and I use a RAID Z2 array (basically RAID-6 w...

Re: The Bad Plus
LUV those dudes. Saw them on the Jools Holland show many years ago and was instantly a fan. Tchad Blake's production - especially drum sounds - are mammoth on the ones he did... And for cover songs - they take a wide range of cover tunes towards a whole different direction. Very delicious - and I'm ...

Picked up a second LittleLabs RedCloud attenuator! And I STILL haven't gotten around to getting the first RedCloud and 2nd TT patch bay installed! Gotta love those time-sinking day jobs

Re: Could we get "Mark forums read"
I get around this by using a right-click > "open in new tab" function when clicking on "Quick Links > New Posts". The "new posts" results page opens in the new tab (but I'm still on the home page tab), then I click "Mark Forums Read" from the home tab, and then close that home tab :) Chrome then swa...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Snapped up one of the last few BitTree 48x2 TT-to-DB25 patchbays on eBay for $380. Not exactly the same as my existing Audio Accessories one (1.5u), but at least both are 48x2 and will look nice on top of each other. Also grabbed two DB25 mult adapters (two 4-point TT mults per DB25) and some extra ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I got a LouderThanLiftoff Silver Bullet about 6 weeks ago and have loved tracking with it and printing mixes (and today, mastering) with it. a GREAT tone box and excellent value considering it's uses for both tracking and mixing - plus a very good eq for sweetening. A Silver Bullet is very likely m...

Re: DIY / MacGyver question: Tricking my API A2D into slaving?
Total guess, but I'd assume it is sending the selected sample rate to the slave unit - either via serial signaling (doubtful) or even a crude shorting of different pins for different rates (pin 1+2 = 44k; pin 1+3=48k; pin 1+4 = 88K; etc). So it is likely a dynamic interface that changes with selecte...

Re: Pop filter with a good gooseneck?
The Stedman has a descent gooseneck. Some prefer nylon/mesh over the perforated metal of the Stedman though...
I really like the multi-layer design of my Blue pop-filter, but it's just a hair too heavy for its gooseneck IMO.

Re: DIY isobox?
Another vote for doing what you can to place the PC in an adjacent room. I did just this for my home theater setup and noisy fan-cooled amplifiers and HTPC (PC was pretty quiet to begin with - more to get the heat out of the main room). Large (120mm) slow-spinning fans and mammoth CPU heatsinks with...

Re: Sell everything and buy more UAD plugins?
Wow - So that UA 48K limitation is confirmed? And you are sure your recorded files contained audio information above 24KHz (@ 48K fs)? So they basically down-sample the 96K input to 48K, process, then upsample back to original Hi-Res sample rate? That is basically opposite of what native plug-ins wo...
