Just to clarify trumpet, bass and shaker were properly recorded in a real studio. However this 10 minutes of music is primarily just acoustic and vocals. Is anybody surprised by the quality of the recording? I was because I wasn't expecting it to be as clear and present considering the cassette and ...

5 song ep recorded on cassette with sm58

Yo... I wrote and recorded these tunes on a Tascam 424MKIII. I used a single SM58 to capture guitar and vocals simultaneously. It was mixed and mastered by a pro. I think it came out pretty damn good. Check it out: http://bbrains.bandcamp.com/album/im-not-trying-to-be-stupid I'm working on another 5...

hey guys. I need a set of rack ears for my 238. Anybody know if the ears off a tascam da-30 will fit a 238? they look very similar in pictures.

Thanks!

First of all, with these rules you have to obey, it's sounds really interesting! What I would do with this kind of project? I would go with a big vocal/guitar main tracks surrounded by subtle countermelodies and harmonies. The one that never distract you from the main performance, but is acting in ...

Here's a thing my band did a couple of months ago -- one room recording, all live with a small audience in the studio. Mono drums, vocals were live, we had headphones so we could hear the vocals, but we were playing live in the room. It's a little ragged here and there, but it was fun. Room is mayb...

I guess I should restate that that is just my opinion. I know lots of guys and gals like things to be real tight. An engineer told me that its a must if you want to have a hit these days. I disagree, and its certainly not the only kind of music I like to listen to or even a majority of what I listen...

I agree with post above. In my opinion we are way to worried about the sound to the point where it becomes a distraction and a road block a lot of the times. Now, I should state that applies mostly to the artists. Let the engineer do his thing unless he is creating a situation where you feel like yo...

What are you trying to accomplish with this recording This is the million dollar question. Sometimes I do ask myself "wtf am i doing this for" I think I get a rise out of the process of creating it and then having me and at least one other person think its valuable, good, cool, etc. Other than that...

Hey thanks all, truly appreciate the wisdom and experience. The responses are kind of what I thought. I just didn't know if there were some tried and true methods or philosophies for arranging like keep the beginning sparse, and then cumulatively add a little something extra through each section of ...

Arrangement Techniques

Anybody care to share their experience with arrangement? I have a little project going on here at the house. Just me. I tracked acoustic guitar and vocals to 11 songs. Tascam 424Mkiii. I used one sm58 to track acoustic and vocals simultaneously. My goal was to have each song stand up on its own even...

I put my cassette tape in a shoe box.

Just kidding. Not really. I'm at home recording myself. So I never finish anything.

Thanks for sharing though. I appreciate it!

I love the focused sound from a single mic on simultaneous vocals and acoustic guitar. If you have a good room you can back the mic away a bit, if not I have had the most luck with the mic out about 12 - 18 inches pointed at the throat/chest area depending on the player/singer. Dead simple and no ph...

i just listened to it on a pair of focal spirit professionals (decent headphones). This could definitely be a hollow big body electric unplugged, it could be a parlor too. If it is an acoustic, it doesn't sound like a condenser mic to me because there is very little high end detail. Ribbon or dynami...
