When I was running a studio I used day and half-day rates for recording, and mixing was billed per song. I've done hourly rates for sound design and game audio stuff, but in my experience, that's too complicated for musician clients

I haven't used Focusrite, but I think their whole thing is putting really good preamps in affordable interfaces! At least, I remember the first few models making a splash because of that.

I just installed Ubuntu on my laptop to give it a try and... I want to like it, but some things are just frustrating. Buying gear and plugins is fun, but it feels sooooooooooo much better to pay rent or bills with money you made from your passion rather than sinking that money right back into the studio. In my opinion, that's what makes it a career instead of a hobby.
