Re: I have high end console

I had a younger co-worker asking about vintage Tascam mixers recently. I told him to look for a Ramsa. Tascam made some shitty prosumer gear back in the day, which really doesn't reflect well on their legacy of good tape machines. I used a Ramsa WR-8118 for years (paired with a Tascam 38) and loved...

Re: I have high end console

What exactly is the question here?

It's a tool like any other; using it to create quality work should showcase it adequately!

Re: Using reverb to differentiate lead and backing vocals

I'd think about it in terms of what kind of reverb each vocal part needs, rather than "lead" vs "backing". If the lead part has a lot of words and syllables going on, a shorter reverb will help it from becoming muddy. If the backing vocals are longer "oohs" and "aahs", give 'em a long, lush hall 've...

Re: power conditioners, i know i know i know

They definitely ain't voodoo and snake oil. They're essentially rackmount surge-protecting power strips with extra protection from RF, and they're pretty much essential for any audio rig. I used to use the Furmans with the dimmable lights, but I just sold them and got the smaller one without the lig...

Re: people with consoles

I'm surprised console manufacturers haven't developed power supplies to mitigate this. I get that you might want to leave a vintage board on during consecutive days of recording to minimize wear and tear, but buying a new bajillion-dollar console that you can't turn off for fear of damaging is just ...

Re: Etsy is buying Reverb

I do some content creation for Reverb, and they sent out a memo a while ago saying the company will continue to be independently run and the acquisition won't really change any of the day-to-day operations. I'd wager that the change of CEO will have more repercussions, but who can say?

I'm not sure I've ever used a non-stock EQ plugin.

Re: Mixing an 8 piece band with an edge

Not completely on topic, but check out Magma for inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3cTPLC4NtI They're definitely not Latin or afro-beat, but they took that big-band-with-horns-and-backup-singers sound and put it in a crazy weird almost gospel-like prog rock context and somehow it worked....

Re: Pro Tools Updated Renewal Pricing

Reaper 'till I die (or upgrade to Nuendo for post-production/game audio features). But honestly, any other DAW is a great option! I think Avid's been using their "industry standard" status to milk subscriptions out of people too scared to switch for a long time. Plenty of top-tier pros use other DAW...

Re: Speaker switcher recommendations

"Monitor controller" might be a better search term to try, except instead of cheap plastic boxes you'll start seeing multi-thousand dollar boutique units

But in the middle range, the Radial MC3 looks like a solid choice: https://www.radialeng.com/product/mc3

http://rane.com/note110.html Like 13 on the chart but switch the red and black on the XLR end I believe using the TS outs on the art is the best because the docs don't say they're balanced while it states XLR outs are balanced keep it unbalanced to unbalanced Beat me to it. That white paper has sav...
