Re: people with consoles

I'm surprised console manufacturers haven't developed power supplies to mitigate this. I get that you might want to leave a vintage board on during consecutive days of recording to minimize wear and tear, but buying a new bajillion-dollar console that you can't turn off for fear of damaging is just ...

Re: Etsy is buying Reverb

I do some content creation for Reverb, and they sent out a memo a while ago saying the company will continue to be independently run and the acquisition won't really change any of the day-to-day operations. I'd wager that the change of CEO will have more repercussions, but who can say?

I'm not sure I've ever used a non-stock EQ plugin.

While we're on the subject of Reaper and how awesome it is, go purchase a license right now if you haven't already!

Re: Mixing an 8 piece band with an edge

Not completely on topic, but check out Magma for inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3cTPLC4NtI They're definitely not Latin or afro-beat, but they took that big-band-with-horns-and-backup-singers sound and put it in a crazy weird almost gospel-like prog rock context and somehow it worked....

Re: Pro Tools Updated Renewal Pricing

Reaper 'till I die (or upgrade to Nuendo for post-production/game audio features). But honestly, any other DAW is a great option! I think Avid's been using their "industry standard" status to milk subscriptions out of people too scared to switch for a long time. Plenty of top-tier pros use other DAW...

Re: Speaker switcher recommendations

"Monitor controller" might be a better search term to try, except instead of cheap plastic boxes you'll start seeing multi-thousand dollar boutique units

But in the middle range, the Radial MC3 looks like a solid choice: https://www.radialeng.com/product/mc3

http://rane.com/note110.html Like 13 on the chart but switch the red and black on the XLR end I believe using the TS outs on the art is the best because the docs don't say they're balanced while it states XLR outs are balanced keep it unbalanced to unbalanced Beat me to it. That white paper has sav...

Re: tracking headphones 2019 (for the performers)

ATH-M50's. Every client that I let try mine loves them. I like these and the less expensive ATH-M40's also. They now come with 2 detachable cables (one coiled, one straight) which seem to head off the cable breaking. I like them a lot. Clients like them too. Same. Can't remember if I have the M40s ...

Re: Mixing a band with a single, mono electric guitar

Thanx! The first is a jizzmaster-type guitar into effect pedals with a single mic onna ProJr amp. The fecund is a The Paul guitar into a Tech 21 Cali pedal and a EBS reverb pedal, DI'd. Both songs are mixed thru a global compressor and reverb patch. There are kinda abbreviated notes in the "lyrics"...

Re: An Analog Setup for My Needs (Tape Machine Talk)

I had good results with a Tascam 38 (after putting a bunch of money into repairs/upgrades). They are relatively common and parts are abundant, but they are honestly pretty annoying to service - especially replacing belts and motors. Hopefully people like Jim Williams and JRF Magnetics are still serv...

Started a kiss record with a super long term client. He's a dylanesque singer songwriter.

Re: What musical thang didja work on today/night?

Workin on music for a supernatural western film. :alien: sounds interesting. Thanks, just submitted the full score for this feature over the weekend (have been working on this for some time, as the film has been in post production awhile). I expect there will be some adjustments so technically not ...
