Different frequencies, with different wavelengths, travel at different speeds. This is incorrect. The speed of sound is dependent on the medium in which it is travelling, which is pretty much always air (at least in our domain). The temerature of the air can affect the speed of sound to a small deg...

right, well.... monitoring the band of repro is a bad idea... i think we all agree on that.

but, since no one had given me any reason not to send my daw the repro signal during tracking.... i guess that much not be a bad idea?

I see. So you are probably working with a split console which means that you could send your headphone mixes via the input side of your console which would work I suppose. Actually, it's an inline console, but same principle. I typically send headphone mixes from the monitor side of the console. Wh...

that's a nice piece of gear and would certianly help. but convertion is convertion. the question is - is the piece of analog gear you want to use worth 2 steps of convertion? you might be better of buying a KILLER plug-in.

the monitor mix would be coming off the console, before the signal even gets to tape.

if this weren't the case, i wouldn't be able to track to tape ever!

if you're mixing outside the box (not "boucing to disk") then yes, it's very easy. However, the nature of your question seems to suggest you are "boucing to disk" and then want to do some hardware comp/lim on the mixdown file. This could be beneficial if you have some nice outboard digital gear. On ...

This actually happened to the vinyl of a record I worked on.
I've been nothing but disappointed by the way others have treated it since the mixes left my hands... but that's life.

Recording through tape directly to DAW?

Someone tell me why I shouldn't start doing this: Rather than tracking a band's basic tracks to tape, then dumping to DAW later for ODs, I could be tracking to the DAW from the repro heads as I'm tracking to tape. The signal would flow from the console, to the tape machine, to the tape, off the tape...

I had the pleasure of mixing David Vandervelde on the air. During the interview, he talked a little about recording his record. It seems like he was just tinkering around for a few years in the studio just for fun, then wound up with enough good tracks for a record. You can check it out here: http:/...

i am a mac user, and Soundhack did the trick...
As soon as i opened the file in Soundhack a message popped up telling me it was a headerless file and that i should change the header. i changed it to 88200 24-bit, did a save-as, and imported the new file to the project and it's back.

THANKS!
