my number one priority in a recording session is to make the musician(s) feel as comfortable and capable as possible.... that's the secret trick to being a producer/recording engineer: session management. there are only so many things you can do with a microphone... beyond that, you have to milk the...

phantom + ribbon mics? really? phantom + powered tube mic is a problem, no doubt, right? RIGHT? Only very specific ribbon mics will be hurt. (these tend to be old and expensive) The phantom power won't do anthing to the power supply for the tube mic. you're telling me that if i popped on phantom to...

see I think the fidelity..in the real world..not on paper..has more to do with how the cd or cassette was manufacured than the actual format.. Certainly there's going to be terrible examples and great examples of each format. But, since we're comparing the formats in general, i think you have to lo...

don't nudge the room mics. 1. if they ain't broke, don't fix em. 2. they're room mics, they should have a nice early reflection sound. 3. you've got at least 4 drums and 2 cymbals... that's a lot of tones and sources to allign to... one may be in phase, and the other out. 4. once you start nudging t...

also I'm confused do you thik it's rarely or never? tape can sound "better" in a lot of applications, but it's rarely more "accurate. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- no. i'm actually arguing semantics. A CD has much higher fidelity than ...

they're much better as a compliment mic, IMO. i used them last as an afterthought. we were ready to roll, when i notice a sweet spot for the drums about 20 feet away in the corner. I dropped some cans there, compresses the shit out of em, and hinted them into the mix. they added alot of vibe and col...

6. Audio, Video. the degree of accuracy with which sound or images are recorded or reproduced. "accurate" and "good" and not the same things. tape can sound "better" in a lot of applications, but it's rarely more "accurate." excellent..so you agree..it depends on what cassette machine and what 16bi...

if the kick completely dissapears when you bring them both up, then that's great actually. it means you're completely out of phase ... 180?. Flip the phase and you're completely IN phase.

it's much trickier when you have something that is sorta out of phase.

i really love using the D6 on kick. it tends to give me a nice opened low end. i don't think i'd throw it on anything else though. it's very true that the RE20 is pretty versitile... i've never used one, but i still know it.

In my experience, the Beta 52 likes to be just inside the vent hole in the reso head. Like have the grill inside the drum with the rest of the mic outside the drum. I dunno how much SPL the Beta 52 can handle, but that's a really great way to blow up the capsule. The vent hole, by far, is the locat...

seriously though, that part where they explain the signal's true fidelity and how it replicates to the several formats is pretty interesting. 16/44 is nowhere near the original according to that. i think this is an interesting enough product and something i'll most likely own one day if i can't aff...
