How to mix with spectral analyzers / analysis / averaging?

Hello all, I've just discovered how to use spectral analysis software but not sure how to mix with it? Could any of you guys/gals provide any feedback/tips on how to best utilize it? On the surface, I was initially thinking just looking at the frequencies of each tracks, cutting out the unnecessary ...

I've also been checking around other sources online for feedback on how to approach this situation. If somebody else is in the same boat as me, thought you might be interested in this message from another member. It jives with what many have already said: "I'm increasingly being asked to undertake t...

@vvv - Yes, you are absolutely correct in interpreting my posts. I will typically have two guitar parts and will wanting to be referencing this mix on diff systems for myself and others. Thanks for clarifying and for the advice. @jhharvest - I'll definitely check out those photosounder vids. I'm not...

Wow jhharvest, thanks for that photoshop link!

That's crazy. I've never seen anything like that. Looks like it would take tons of time to use that method but good to know it's there if these other methods don't do the trick.

Hey thanks guys for all the helpful feedback... @kslight - Thanks! Good to hear your project was successful. Will try your advice on lowering the levels on the 2 track. This jives with what Waltz Mastering had also mentioned. @vvv - Thanks for the idea on the high pass filter and hard limiting. Just...

How to mix new guitar parts to already mastered recording?

Happy Early 4th of July everybody! Been awhile since I last posted. I've got an old mastered recording of a band I played in years ago and have written new guitar parts that I'd like to mix in for a new demo for reference purposes. Sadly I cannot find the original tracks as I would just easily remix...

Re: So, I got to work in a "real" studio ...

Hi Bear! Just wanted to say that I really dig the song. Keep up the good work! Do you think you would have been able to make the song sound that way had you recorded it at home though? I've been recording at home for years now and I totally agree with you on your initial post. However, I also think ...

Re: Live Vocals question.. Singing thru guitar amp onstage?

I would advise against it unless you use some kind of full-range amp like a an acoustic guitar or electric piano amp - one with a tweeter and closed back. That will provide the consistent monitor you desire, and then you can take a DI out of that into the main system. Thanks, I'll keep this in mind...

Re: Live Vocals question.. Singing thru guitar amp onstage?

It's not that we necessarily like the sound of the guitar amp better, but rather that it would be a lot more consistant if you're playing from club to club not knowing how the sound is at these clubs. Also, in response to Brian's post, there have been times where we just didn't have the luxury of ha...

Live Vocals question.. Singing thru guitar amp onstage?

Hello everybody! Just wanted to ask everybody's opinions and/or advice on live vocals. Our band will be going on tour this summer and were considering using a guitar amplifier for vocals and just micing that thru the P.A. We would be doing that because 1) Our singer would be able to hear her vocals ...

Re: seeking tips for Otari 8 track operation

1.) 499 is not necessarily better than 456, though it is more high-fidelity and crispy on the high end. The thing about the 456 formulation is that it creates more of the "natural tape compression" that people long after for big fat snare and kick sounds when you hit the tape really loud, so 456 is...
