I would buy a Tascam DP-004 which you record directly to SD card via RCA to 1/4 stereo plugs then transfer SD card to laptop. Or for a Desktop purchase a PCI soundcard such as a M-Audio 2496 soundcard which has stereo RCA in/out.

Well the 238 doesn't have an integrated mixer, so if that is important to you then the 644...or look for a 688 for 8 tracks. What would be preferable to purchase. They are both the same price second-hand but the 238 is an 8 track, and the 644 is a 4 track and has midi. There are pro and cons for buying either but I cannot decide. What would others recommend.
