Re: Replacement 12ax7 tubes.
but no tube I have ever heard in my amp or any other will deliver the spank of the small bottle military phillips 5881's. you might not want that spank and might be after that smooth sag dave This 'spank' that you speak of, is that the sort of tougher type of Fender clean-ish amp sound? Re: Replacement 12ax7 tubes.
Our pal Rocksteady (formerly known as Lordkoos) recommended an NOS preamp tube in the #1 position, saying that's where most of the tone is formed.

Yeah, I saw em when they came to Chicago recently, really nice stuff. Sort of Robyn Hitchcock-ish, but with their own style. My buddy is the guitar/pedal steel guy in that group. Have not actually heard the record yet.ottokbre wrote:I like the new Decemberist's too.

Re: Home studio - what do I need next?
How does your space work out for recording? How many tracks will you need to record at the same time? These and other factors will influence your choice of hardware. For instance, my basement space isn't great for drums, so I take my somewhat portable Tascam 1/2" 8 track out to better rooms for trac...

Re: 8 tracks to solid
Don't any of you guys like stereo? Sure. I use a couple of LDCs in XY right above the front of the kick, sort of like 'kit' mics instead of 'overheads. It's kind of a compromise between close miked toms and distant overheads. That way you get the body and of the toms and some of the room sound. It ...

Re: Can I have more monitor please?
the old earplug in one ear trick can help a singer hear the vocal better. He'll be hearing himself sing from inside his head, so hopefully less monitors will be necessary. YMMV This can also help those band mates who insist on singing backups at the top of their lungs, even though they can't hit pit...

Re: Single Channel Mic Pre's???
I believe there's a used Symetrix SX202 over in Buy/Sell/Trade, $150 shipped for 2 channels.
I haven't heard em, but they seem to get a lot of recommendations on this site.
That said, the RNP fucking rocks.

I seem to recall our dear friend Guitarwhore detailing his search for a Tascam roller in the Buy/Sell/Trade section, but I can't seem to locate it through the search function. Perhaps the being that is G-Ho will enlighten us?
